OK so I'm level 37A with a S licence after 4 weeks driving (A lot!) all with the standard PS3 controller and just got a DFGT today.

I love the feel of the feedback on an open track but on tracks where the driving line takes you close to a wall or other barrier the wheel tries to turn me away from this even though I'd rather get nice and close. Also if/when I go off track the wheel seems to 'take over' and try to aim me back towards the track, but not always in the most logical way, and I have to force the wheel to turn the way I want.

The pre race option to have no, mild or strong makes little differnce but turning vibration off for the controller smooths things a little.

Do other users feel what I'm describing is typical for a new wheeler, and I'll get used to it?

you will get used to it.
this is the combination of the terrain/ track surface you're driving over and the suspension settings of your car.

i.e the line close to the wall will probably have an incline in the road surface up to the wall (track designers do this to stop cars from being drawn towards the wall)
so you are now feeling the effects of this as the wheel turning away from the wall.
you need to hold it with stiffer wrists and elbows in such cases.

Thanks Robbks. That makes a lot of sense. I'm having to adapt my rather wild style of driving to the wheel too! :scared:

Just an update. I've spent all day driving with the DFGT and Robbks was dead right. While I'm nowhere as faster or smooth with the DFGT as I am with the PS3 controller I'm getting there and the feedback forces are feeling a lot more realistic.

Thanks again Robbks!

once you get used to how the cars react back through the wheel, you'll soon be very fast as you can then anticipate steering corrections that you will need to make simply by being able to actually feeling the grip and how the car is sliding, etc.

where with the standard controller, you seem to need to wait until you can see/ hear the car slide before you can correct for it.

i.e a car will usually "feel" that it is about to slide, ut you don;t get that advanced warning with teh standard controllers

Yes several long days of driving have got me to that point. While I can wring the neck of a car with the standard controller I am finding I'm quicker with the DFGT, at least until I stuff it into the armco!

When I find myself head on and stationary into a solid object it takes an age to reverse and get going again with the wheel compared to the controller. Of course the trick is to stay on the track! Maybe that will come in time.
