DFGT available in the UK again...with a catch

The catch is that it now costs £149.95, no longer such an economical option over the wheels costing £200.00 plus. Remember that shortly before the launch of GT5 you could pick one of these up for £80.00, so it's hard to fathom what caused such a price hike (other than the nominal VAT rise)

Oddly though, there are now many on eBay, going for a lot less, and some of them are new/as new. I wonder if people bought them up when supply wasn't meeting demand thinking they would make a big profit?

Not really, it's basic supply and demand... Shortly after GT5 came out, people started buying these like crazy and as you know, they were sold out virtually everywhere. Prices went up, just like the G27's.

I was lucky enough to buy the wheel when I bought NFS Shift. But I believe there wouldn't be this problem if there was a new wheel released with the game. DFGT may be THE wheel for GT5, but its already 2 years old.
 
I got mine for £57 although that was a while ago!! They have been as low as 50 on Amazon but have been gradually rising since then!
 
Thats my plans for buying one out the window :(

On holiday in France a few months ago i saw one going for 70 euros in a French branch of GAME. Wish i'd bought it now.

Isn't Logitech aware that Fanatec has a wheel at 160€ (I dont know the price in £) And the Fanatec one has 6+1 Speeds H Shifter + Clutch and it works great with GT5..
 
Damn that's a hike and a half. I got my G25 for £99.99 delivered from Play.com about two years ago when they did a 24hr price cut. No way on earth would I pay £150 for a DFGT.

I totally understand your logic but I think you are looking at it a little simplistically, or perhaps things are different here, as I can't say i've ever seen anything else increase in price by 87% just because it is popular or sought after. Just as more popular PS3 games don't go on sale here for £75.00 instead of £40.00

I think it's more likely manufacturing issues, which could explain the period they were more or less unavailable too. If the wheels are manufactured in China, which is likely, perhaps they had to outsource to a new manufacturer who couldn't produce them anywhere near as cheaply.
 
It's £119 on Logitech's site, not £149 :)

I just got a replacement from Logitech and because I paid £80 from Amazon in November, Logitech gave me a discount making it £77. Yay for me.

And that's a heck of a markup on Amazon, Play.com etc! Guess I should've done my homework more, just remembered it being £80 on those sites though.
 
Amazon is just a portal for resellers. If they see demand, they will try to get that extra buck. And with GT5 the DFGT went from shelf-warmer to high demand item, so a price spike doesn't surprise me one bit. Give it a few months, if you can wait, and it'll be sub $100 again I'm reasonably sure.

I bet you cant get one though, i tried getting one back in november and they were always out of stock, everytime i get an email saying they now have them in stock they are sold out again when i check, i got mine from Marshal ward for £99 delivered. not sure on their stock levels now.

Wonder if people are buying them to sell em online. Lol.
 
I got one from HMV last month. I was wandering round all the stores in my local area trying to find one. Walked into to HMV and sure enough, there was one sat there on its own at the back. So I grabbed it. It was £89.99.
