DFGT becomes unresponsive mid-race?

Been seeing this problem the last little while where all of a sudden, during a race, the wheel, shifter, etc becomes unresponsive and does not work.

I have to unplug the wheel from the ps3 and plug it back in for it to work again. Is this an issue with my wheel or the game? Happens to anyone else?
 
Happened to me once, does it go into automatic transmission mode? if this is what happens, yes it did this once when I've never used or wanted auto. Just changed the settings and it stuck with it since then. Other than that, that was my issue anyway...
 
I haven't tried with GT5, but in GT4 I had a problem with having the wheel and a controller plugged in at the same time. My friend had the same problem in GT5. This might be something to try, unplug everything except wheel and make sure it's controller 1.

Otherwise, if it's the wheel I'd suggest checking your plugs. Also if you run over cables with heavy objects they can fracture and cause intermittent loss of connection.
