Is anyone having a problem with their wheel (DFGT) heating up and losing FFB. I did a short little 3hr enduro followed up by FGT and by the end of the first race of the FGT my FFB (set on 10) was almost non-existent. I had to let it cool down for 45 min. Now I seem to notice it more and more, happening sooner and sooner. I understand why its happening. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as well??

I havent done any endurance racing yet but ive often drifted for hours at a time. Drifting is very stressfull on the wheel and i have to say i have not had this problem.

If it gets serious; i would contact logitech and ask what they advise to do..

I was thinking of adding some more cooling vents and rigging up a small fan....as a last resort, only if I can't get it fixed under warranty. It's only 3 weeks old.

I have felt my wheel get warm during some of the endurance races, but have never had it quit working or the feedback go out.

nope, the most i have driven non stop was the laguna endo and the indy, the indy doesnt really challenge the wheel
i think the ring is the biggest test for the wheel outside of the rally events
no problems yet

Where did you purchase it from? If you got it from a local store, just take it back and exchange it.

It's has happen to me as well. I found the harder I fight the wheel the more it heats up. Once I redone my setup on the car I was using it didn't heat up as much as before. If your is lease than a year old you can call logic tech customer care and get a new one if it still heat up.

I just returned my one for a refund (Amazon) and got logitech to give me a discount on a new one from them.

It would basically die after 30-45mins of use every time I used it. I did notice it was getting pretty warm.
Unlike yours though, the wheel would still work (FFB/pedals/sequential), but the GT light would go out and I'd lose all of the buttons inc paddleshift.

Electric motors don't like excessive heat. After a while, they lose a noticeable amount of torque compared to when cool -- something about magnets. The case on your wheel doesn't exactly have ideal ventilation, so after three or so hours of hard use, well... take a break now and again between racing. It won't die or anything, unless you bought a lemon, but breaks are good for you and your wheel.

But if it happens more frequently and sooner... may want to just replace it.

Yeah, this is not normal. Noticeably warmer, with weaker FFB after hours of use, yes. But not that.

I know... It's wierd. This fault was very consistent though and I can't understand how it getting warm would shut down the buttons (NOT cool when you're getting close to gold on the Vettel challenge )
If I left it alone for half an hour or so, it would work fine for a little while before shutting down again.

I wasn't especially rough with it and the wheel itself still functioned normally.
I've never even had a chance to use it for hours on end...

Apologies for the semi-thread jack btw :)

Mine has gotten a little warm after like an hour or two of playing with it, and I sometimes smell a hint of... something electrical coming from the motors, but it hasn't yet started acting up and I've been using it for a couple months now.

Mine heats up and I can smell it a bit. I have several hours and at least 5 hours a day FF10 and it has never quit on me. I ran 90@laguna in the X2010 and that heated it up pretty good and made it get louder, but still never quit working.

mine gets a little warm after hours of playing which i think is normal, but never quits working

Mine will get quite warm after hard use, but I never feel the loss of FFB

Might want to contact somebody @ Logi about that dude, they may end up hooking you up :)

same here, I think the strength of it went down but I think that was because of me learning to drift with it and yanking the wheel back and forth more then I should have :dunce:. I'm better at it now and I think I weakened the motor a little by doing it, o well still works good tho and yes the motor does get hot but it never just went out on me.

Thanks for all the replies. Right now I'm taking breaks after every few hours of play to let it cool, seems to help. I may contact Logitech if it continues or just take it back toGamestop where I bought it.

I don't know about DFGT but my DFP has been used even 24 hours straight without ill effects. Maybe try to tune the force feedback down (i use 5)?

Why race FFB at 10?! Especially for an endurance race! Common sense please visit us!

I can't race FFB 10, I tried it on ten when I first got it and I restled the table instead of the wheel lol! :P

I have FFB set to two now and I find the wheel nice to drive with like that (plus if I go any higher the table starts to go into the corner instead of the wheel turning lol!)

FFB 10 just seems ridiculous tbh ... I don't think that would be realistic at all, however, I don't want to work that hard to drive a car in GT5.

I use FFB 10 on my G25, and it's fine for me. Maybe the bench I have it mounted on is stiffer/heavier than your table. Maybe I'm physically stronger. But the wheel is a couple of years old now, and is beginning to heat up more readily like the OP's, and possibly loose strength as it does. Maybe a new wheel would be like you describe.

Moslty though, it's personal preference. Which is why there is adjustable FFB.

Well, for my G27, I never lost the force feedback but it did get really hot. Whenever I do an endurance race, I'll usually use the G27 for about 40 minutes before pausing the game for a good 15 minutes. Then I'll go back and repeat the process. I've used the G27 for the 4-hour endurance race without stopping so I know it will last but I still give it breaks just to be safe.

@ Hig-GT:
Like Delrond said. Its preferance. Mine is secure and I don't have a problem with it at 10. Many people run it at level 10. I was simply asking if anyone experienced what I had. I have plenty of common sense. If it has a range to run in (from 1 to 10) then as a product it should be able to run in that range. What was the point of your post? It did not address anything from the original.
