DFGT Issue

Notice that my DFGT will button press on certain jerks of the wheel. Basically what is happening is when I get a good wheel jerk a random button will push. Usually the on the fly adjustment so it is a no biggie but occasionally the PS home button will go, the screen grows dim and I lose control of everything. Anyone else have this? I still have a warranty I think.
 
Never encountered this problem with my DFGT. And you're certain it's not your hand accidentally hitting the PS button?
 
Are you sure your thumbs aren't hitting the L2 and R2 buttons on the wheel?
 
Sometimes when Im in a longer, sharper corner I turn the wheel a good deal, and when I go to shift I get close to hitting some buttons. I don't really hit them much though.
 
That's actually happened to me a couple times. I'm not sure whether i just pressed the button or it happened by itself.
 
Never have this issue with my DFGT...

The other day I had a friend over who gave GT5 a try with the DFGT, he'd never played GT or used a wheel. After about 2 minutes of struggling to keep the car on the track (ok, I should maybe not have put him in a slightly tuned M5...) he accidentally switched on the windscreen wipers. Just like you'd see a beginning driver do in a real car :P

I thought it was hillarious, seeing him swerve around the track in panic and asking me how to turn the d*mn wipers off :)
 
Sometimes I hit the (o) button when going for the (x)button . I jumped out of a lobby one time when not looking at the tv hittin buttons to fast ..... I've had controllers that would make inputs by it's self. Idk maybe one of the rubber contact pads that lay under buttons is sitting funny. These things do shake alot , guess it could happen . I'm just guessing
 
Yes! This happens *regularly* with my DFGT. Sharp turns of the wheel will cause a random button on the face to activate itself. No, fingers are NOT slipping.

Most common is that the realtime adjustment dial menu will pop up. No big deal there, just annoying. I tap the button again to make the menu go away and keep going.

Often enough though, it will activate the Start button, which obviously pauses the race and gives you the continue/restart etc choices. This is distracting and obviously disrupts the rhythm of your driving.

Sometimes, it infuriatingly trips the PS3 button, which pulls up the XMB while your race continues in the background and you watch helplessly as the car slams headon into a wall. This usually ruins the race. Restart, or fetch a large hammer.

It never happens on smooth turns, only when the wheel is turned sharply/suddenly. It must have something to do with contacts being loose or similar.

This happens to me also, but it only recently started - like the last 2 times I used the wheel. I've only had my DFGT about 2 weeks now, and it is VERY bothersome.

When racing every 10-15 minutes or so the game will pause by itself, the PS button will load up and the game will go to the XMB menu, or the game will change camera angles by itself. The buttons aren't stuck or anything, as they work fine if I use them normally. I'll give it a couple tries again and see if the problem persists. Even restarting and replugging everything doesn't help. It definitely has to be the wheel, as it seems to do it most whenever I'm turning.

I certain it's not me touching the buttons accidentally, as I've deliberately kept my hands and fingers clear of the buttons while trying to recreate the problem and it has happened several times.

Not sure if there's a DIY fix for it, or if it has to be replaced. If it still persists after another week or so, I'll return it to the store I bought it from and see what they say.

That's particularly distressing considering your DFGT is only 2 weeks old. Ours is about 2 years old and between my wife and I we use it several days a week. I thought maybe it was a wear issue where the contacts on the buttons were just loosening up over time. We didn't have the issue early on; it developed over time.
 
Yes it is quite distressing :guilty: I only had it for 2 weeks and already I'm quite attached to it and cannot see myself going back to the DS3.

2 days ago I took it back to the store I bought it from and explained the problem to them. They said they would need to check it and see the problem for themselves.

Today they called me, and said they could not recreate the problem in their testing (the guy said he tried to do so by racing with it on GT5 for a couple hours, but it worked perfectly with him) :rolleyes:

He said I probably hit the buttons by accident while turning, as that's not uncommon :grumpy:

The last 3 times I used the wheel the problem occurred, and I made doubly sure the last time to keep my hands on the wheel and away from the buttons. It still happened...

It is strange that it's happening and it's still so new. I really only use it on weekends for about 5 or 6 hours each time, so I don't think it stemmed from wear and tear as seems to be the case with yours.

Either way, I asked the guy if he could try it again between today and Monday (the next day that they next re-open), and I'll call him then to see if he had any luck recreating the problem. I'll update the thread with what transpires in my case :nervous:
 
Not that my opinion is worth much to them, but I can back up your statement that it's not about 'hitting the buttons by accident'.
 
Call logitech support direct and tell them the problem
they will give you a return#
take it to the place of purchase with your receipt and they have to exchange the unit.
 
@ Izain - thanks, but unfortunately I also don't think your experience will help my situation much either. I highly doubt the store is going to take the word of someone on an internet forum :( I am 100% certain I didn't hit the buttons as well, since I was deliberately testing to see if it happened and purposely kept my hands clear when it did.

@ Robbks - I don't think that will work for me, as I'm not in the US.

The store I bought it from says they will honor my warranty (which is 30 days only :yuck:), but they have to see/recreate the problem first, which they have not yet been able to do.

I'll find out tomorrow if they had any more luck doing so, otherwise I may have to go in and see if I can get it to happen myself and let them see it with their own eyes. If that then fails, then I guess I have nothing to lose by sending Logitech an email to see if they can get the store to honor the warranty claim.
 
That happened to my dfgt and a few friends. What we did was, if there was no warrantee we cut the big wire coming out of the back of the wheel to disconnect them alltogether.

I'm in Australia and there's local Logitech Support.
call the US number and see what they say. your local store had to buy them from a Logitech Distribution centre somewhere?
 
Just to update, the store said they again had no luck recreating the problem (not much surprise there).

They said for me to try it again and make sure that I am not touching the buttons by mistake.

If it still happens, they said to bring it back. Haven't yet had a chance to try it (I usually only have time on weekends), so I'll do just that. I'm almost certain it will still happen though.

Then I'll go back to the store with my ps3 and copy of GT5 and set it up on their TV and try it there in front of them.

@ Robbks - I am also going to shoot off an email to Logitech later tonite to see what they have to say.
 
Just to update - I've been liaising with a Logitech Support Specialist via their forums http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Console-Gaming/Driving-Force-GT-randomly-doing-weird-button-presses-on-PS3/td-p/581896, and he's been trying to help.

Of course I still had the issue when I tried the wheel after I got it back from my local shop, so I tried his suggestion, but it did not help (I still have to update him on that forum).

So I called my local store back and spoke to the manager again, and told him I still had the issue. After some resistance, he eventually offered to exchange it for another wheel 👍 I just collected it today, and will be trying it later or tomorrow.

Hopefully I'll have no issues with this new wheel.

***Update***

Tried the new wheel for close to 8 hours yesterday and no problems. Looks like the old wheel was the problem after all. Will continue to monitor it.
