It how the sound it normally makes when you turn the wheel fast.

Its these very faint little squeak like ticking when you turn the wheel very slightly.

Is this something i can just take apart and oil to get it to stop?

Hey, it's just talking to you! Mine does it as well, but it doesn't bother me. Personally, I wouldn't mess with it.

It is. The DFGT is very easy to take apart and put back together. Just make sure you get all the screws out, you shouldn't have to force anything. And don't lose the springs from under the sequential shifter. ;)

I did this to mine. I didn't use an oil to lubricate it, I used petroleum jelly so it wouldn't run all over. Any light grease or petroleum jelly will do fine. As long as it's not too stiff, a grease will make it quieter than an oil.

Also, if you put some petroleum jelly/grease on the rack/pinion while you're in there, you can get rid of some of the noise and cogginess from there too. For a while at least. They make specific greases for this sort of purpose, but they're expensive and anything reasonably light should do about as well.

Good luck!

If you don't feel confident enough to open up the wheel, you shouldn't worry about it, as it's normal. My old one squeaked a fair bit, but after upgrading (to the T500 RS :sly:), it has disappeared, for me (almost).

Our DFGT's do that squeaking too, we think it's nothing to worry about.

I'm sorry for not creating a new thread for this but my DFGT has developed a strange issue where turning from 0 to somewhere around 130-150 degrees to the right shuts down the horn light and none of the buttons work while it's not lit. After turning more than previously mentioned degrees it lights up again and the buttons come alive again. Also after driving for some time it gradually begins to de-center and it doesn't turn full lock all the way (45 degrees "missing" at worst from the left and wheel is turned to the right when driving straight).

Re-plugging and letting the wheel calibrate itself corrects the gradually worsened steering but the "light off and dead buttons while turning" issue still exists. Trying to turn right in GT5 causes the XMB menu to appear (just like pressing the PSN button). The warranty has expired. Any thoughts?

alright. i was never sure about the squeeking because it never does it right away. its only like if i play and use the wheel for a good bit like an hour or two. (never actually timed it).

Also its usually only when i turn it right. O.o

i opened mine up and used a bit of lithium grease, as said any grease should do as long as its not too thick. Undo all the screws on the bottom, lift the top off and I cant just remember but you may need to take the metal plate off inside too to get to the gears. Its very easy to do.

re the other problem, sounds like it could be a dodgy connection inside you would have to open her up and have a see what you can find really. About the off centering, g27s suffer from a loose codewheel (the bit that spins and tells the software what position the wheel is in which causes off centring, I'm not sure if DFGTs suffer the same problem but its a possibility.

It could be a mainboard (motherboard?) fault, but I don't know for sure. Have you tried opening it?

I haven't opened it yet but I'm considering to do it soon. Maybe some kind of a contact failure or something. I'll check it out and report if I find something unusual.

Not sure about a squeak, but I can hear a sort of high-pitched 'whirr'ing sound when I turn the wheel quickly. I think this is normal.

Okay, I can't take it anymore. It's SQUEAKING. "Squeeking" is not - nor has ever been - a word.

And while we're at it, it's PEDAL. A "petal" is part of a flower; "peddle" is a verb meaning "to sell".

Finally, it's BRAKE. Not "break". Unless you're referring to what I'd like to do to some of the fingers tapping out words around here.

;)
