My local GameStop just up the street has "low stock" on DFGT's (according to their site) - I've been wanting a wheel for awhile, and just never had the money for one. Now that I have the money to buy one - should I go for it? Will it bring a whole new life to GT5?

GS is selling it for $130+tax. I checked Best Buy and the only store that has it is 50min away, BUT they're selling it for $100+tax (according to their site).

My only issue is my parents coming home and freaking out that I just dumped $100-130 on a "pointless, plastic POS" (as they would probably describe it). :scared:

Edit: Will it also work with the Xbox? I've heard of "conversion kits" - how much do they cost?

Edit: Just bought one - my god this is fun!

Although i have never raced with a wheel, i have heard that it will make your laptimes more consistent and slightly faster with practice. Also it is much easier to gold the vettel challenge.

Do it. It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

Go for it. I've had my DFGT for about a year and it's transformed my gaming experience.

I use the DFGT (previously used Driving force pro) and in my opinion the DFGT for the money is ideal for the casual gamer or limited budget, (I only paid £89 for mine)

Driving with a wheel is more intuative than using a DS3 and gives you more control.

So to conclude, Yes go for it and enjoy GT5! 👍

Thanks guys! I'll give it a go :).

You can find these on ebay for around $75 dollars. That's how I got mine over a year ago and I still love it & has made me a much more consistent racer.

I don't know if it works on the 360 though

Just got home...immediately grabbed the nearest TV tray I could find and made a quick stand.

After about 30min of driving, I'm glad I bought one - really adds a new element to the game.

Your parents are gonna be upset. Isn't it awesome?

Could be a lot worse things to spend $$$ on:sly:
Well that's what I told my wife anyways!

Now go spend more $$$ and build or buy a good racing rig. If you gonna go...GO BIG!

Good to hear. Follow up with your parent's reaction:sly:

You are just trying to get this kid in trouble aren't you :scared: You are right, as a parent there are a lot of other things I could be worried about my kids buying :)

Small back story: Had a crappy wheel for the PS2 long ago, but never used it since it sucked.

My mom: "I thought you got rid of that?"
"No."
"You have two!?"
"No."
*small odd pause* "Well, I got to do some errands."

My dad: *comes in - long odd pause as he stares at it*
"What?"
"I thought you got rid of that!?"
"It's a different one."
"Where'd you get it!?"
"Gamestop..."
*small pause* "Well, I'm gonna get a haircut."

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. When I first bought my iPod touch, my mom freaked out and I had to lie that I paid $180 for it.

I started with a DFGT 2 years ago, and a tea tray, now its grown into this.

I've had my dfgt for over a year now and it's by far the best accessory for video games I've ever bought. I got a wheel because I regularly race in hour long races and my thumbs were very sore after racing  so a dfgt has saved me from carpel tunnel 👍

Wait till mom and dad compare notes, lol. Remind them of the value, more time spent driving GT5 = less time for drugs, hookers, and crime.

It should put things into perspective for them ... or it'll be permission to go out and have a lot more fun.

You win either way.

Failed, but it was worth a shot.

Hey GTP_ADE, does that gadget for the shifter work well, I guess you're accustomed to driving a Right-hand drive car too....how did you rig it up?

Here's my set up:

Yes it's great value for money

Nice rolling chair

For now, I'll just have to adjust the positioning with books. I'm going to build a little stand eventually (especially since having the wheel at 90* is a pain). For now, I'm just going to have to live with sitting on my bed...unless I can nab a seat from somewhere for free and build something in the living room on the big TV.

For now, my little ghetto setup is fine. I'm slowly adjusting to it and getting better. Still not as fast as I was with a DS3. I still end up with too much throttle in the turns and spin out. Do you guys use one foot for gas/brake or both?

I have friends who do both.....I set the pedal assembly a little to the right of centre and use only my right foot.......same with me, times faster for now with the DS3.....I have more fun with the steering though

Someone will eventually pipe up and preach the evils of left foot braking. Let me save you a ton of trouble.

There is no right and wrong way... only what works, and doesn't. Find what works for you, on or off the track.

Don't listen to the opinionated b.s.

First off congrats on the wheel...you'll love it & pretty soon (except for drifting in my case) you will be shaving seconds off your old lap times.

As for the 2-footer style, personally that's what I use but find what works best for you. Don't let someone else tell you how to race.

Here is also a link for making your own rig with pretty inexpensive items.
I used it as a template and built my rig for less than $50 and have used it for about 1.5 yrs.

In that case, coupled with this not being entirely in the right section, locked.
