DFP problems/first post

hey. ive been around this site for awhile and just now decided to join. but anyway i just got my new dfp from overstock.com and when i tried to change the shift buttons from the gear level to the paddles it wouldnt register. i no the paddles are l1 and r1 and when i changed instead of making the new shift buttons the paddles it made them the l3 and r3 buttons. should i just return it and get a new 1?
 
i thought they where r2 l2 i works on mine but i hate them they are to small i like the knob so much better

i looked n tha manual and they is r1 and l1. ill probably stick wit the knob- i just wanted to try tha paddle to see how muched i liked em

Welcome to GTP.
Capitalization/punctuation is your friend. If someone sees a well-written post, they are more likely to respond to a question.
 
I have the opposite problem, where I can't get the gearknob to work, but the paddles work fine. I have the Japanese version of GT3.
 
Are you trying to change them in the Controller setup screen or the GT-Force configuration screen? Because that's usually the problem.
