9 PS2 games.

Corvette (Somehow didn't count... is in perfect condition)
NFL Gameday 2001
Madden 2002
HotWheels Stunt Track Challenge
Sled Storm
EA Sports Arena Football League
NHL 2K6
Tiger Woods PGA Tour '07
Some other sports game thou can't remember.

...and I could have got $2.85... Sure they are old games but $2.85? That's a freaking rip-off!

Do take note that not all were bought at GameStop. And I was 9 when I had most of these games.

Basically, if no one wants the game, they aren't thus you get like nothing back... and all those sports games get you just a couple pennies since their value is gone by the next year.

To answer your question, yes you may as well have been.

all those games aren't worth $2.85. You should have just kept them unless you were cleaning up your library of games.

It'd be easier if you were more clear. It took me a while to actually get that you were selling them. But yes, I'd say you did. I've seen Madden 2002 in there for about $2 itself.

Maybe if I had thrown my spare/extra/2nd copy of GT4 in there the value would have increased.

You're not going to get much out of PS2 games, period.

The amount you get back plus the value they resaell it at together doesn't come close to the value should you have kept it.

I didn't take the money, I kept the games.

I do think GameStop judges game value by the game's age and popularity, so GT4 would have more value than Sled Storm.

what about ebay
It's affective

True. Maybe I can use eBay, but my friend is visiting me tomorrow and he REALLY likes the game I wanted to get. Thought I had enough but with the crappy trade-in value I couldn't get the game.

Not saying people's opinions are bad, i'm just pointing things out.

Exactly. Keep in mind they are old PS2 games, and the PS3 has been out forever now, anything PS2 really isn't worth squat anymore. Remember used game dealers are just like used car dealers, they have to make a profit to keep running somehow. Just like you're not going to get thousands of dollars for a mid-90's used car on trade, you're not going to get hardly anything back for old used games. Same thing happened to PS1 games when the PS2 game out.

And technically they didn't "rip you off" since you kept the games. You could try eBay to sell them, but my guess is you're not going to get much more for them that what GameStop was going to give you anyway.

It is.

To be honest you shouldn't expect to get more than $2 for PS2 games nowadays, especially if they're sport games, which many of them are. These NFL, Madden and golf games get released every year, and considering the fact that one of your games is the 2001 edition...

Who would buy them anyways?

You aren't going to get anything on Ebay with those games, in fact you would probably wind up with less than where you started. At most they will probably sell for $3/game, which may sound good until you realize it costs about $4 to mail it to the person.

I'm not sure what your expecting there? Even if you take in Madden 09 for ps3 now IF they take it you'll get $0.25... They are in the business of making money so why in the heck would they give you $5 even for Madden 2001 when nobody will ever buy it. You can't blame them for it, we could go back to the old days when newspaper classifieds were the only way to sell your stuff if you prefer.

Better idea, sell all of them for one price. Go EBay, Craiglist, Kijiji, etc.

Some dude got rid of Dance Star when he hid it along with the God of War II game I bought off of him.

No they didn't rip you off. Did you take a look at the stacks of old PS2 games that are sitting around at game stop on sale for under $5. What makes you think they want to give you real money to add to that pile?

Offer them on ebay for a dollar each, and mail them by media mail (about $3 bucks or so). People will usually buy them for that total net price (about $5) and you will net about 85 cents on each. $7.65 total. Actually you may even make more as ebay was doing free listings on some stuff like that.

I actually can't believe that they offered you any money for those games at all. I would've thought they'd probably have to pay more for the storage space to keep those games than they'd make off of selling them

Either way, as others have said, they're basically worthless. That's why I usually make sure to get rid of my console games in time, unless I'm very sure they'll turn into classics down the line or that I'll keep playing them for so lang that I won't care if they're becoming completely worthless. ;)

Awhile back I unloaded a stack of games to GameStop, I had a few older games that I knew wouldn't
get much, and the rest were PS3 games that were newish but lost interest in. Ended up with $60 worth
of store credit which most of came from the PS3 games.

Even if they were offering you a low price for your PS2 games I'd still have sold them to GameStop and saved
the $ on store credit. Hey it all adds up right?

I traded in a good time hunk of games when ps move first came out. Amixbetween ps3 and wii games. I ended up with a free move bundle extra move controller and a nav controller. I signed up for the rewards deal they do and got extra that day. Oddly i got more for gow1+2. Than i did for 3..........

No it's not. Try selling them yourself and see how many people want to buy them. Hint, your phone won't be ringing off the hook with people offering you good sums of money for games like those. I would have expected $5 max for the lot. How much were you expecting anyway? It would have been different if you had taken a wad of classic games. Games they know people will pay good money for, but as it happens, you took a selection of average games, dated games and old sports games. I have Fifa98 and Fifa99. Will you give me $20 for the pair?

I have Sled Storm :D

The problem with these stores is that they will try to rip you off even if you have something of value, and try to take advantage of people who don't know.

I saw a copy of FF7 in box with manuals in a retail store for $170, my mate out of curiosity went in and asked how much he'd get for his copy (equal condition), he was told $20. I've heard similiar things about ICO on PS2, which are now selling online routinely for $100.

But yes, other than collectables/rarities, those old games are worth squat. I once traded 75 Sega Mastersystem games for about $2-$4 each.

@F1 Fan - I was expecting around $5-$7 for all of those games. I mean, I wasn't expecting a motherlode, but I thought I would get more $$$ from those games. Corvette alone costed around $30 around late '06 - early '07 and that was a 3 year old game. so It would be around $10 - $12 in value today. I would expect 70 cents to $1.25 in trade-in credits.

Hopefully, I can trade in The Force Unleashed, Battlefield Bad Company, NHL 08 and my spare copy of GT4 (It still sells for like, $15.99 and maybe higher at GameStop, so it HAS to be worth a decent amount) for some decent $$$ to buy the game I want.

When was the last time you went into one of these stores? GameStop doesn't even take PS1 games anymore, let alone anything older than that.

Pretty sure you're going to be disappointed. Especially since they sell for $4.99 on their website:

TBH selling stuff on eBay isn't that great.

They cap the amount of shipping for certain items. I was selling a DVD set (4 DVD's in their cases) and they capped it at $4, USPS Flat Rate was a little more and it wouldn't let me choose it.

Then they hit you with listing fees, and a final selling fee, 8% or more, depending on what's being sold.

THEN there's the Paypal fees, a little over 3%.

So you end up keeping like 75% about.

I ended selling that damn DVD set for $5 USD.

But yeah. I traded a couple PS2 games and they were like a dollar each. I would only use PS2 trade ins to get that extra trade in stuff. Trade in a couple recent PS3/360/wii games you're tired of, and trade in 8 PS2 games and you get like what, an extra 40%?

I do have alot of Wii games I don't play so maybe that is the best bet. I'll probably trade in The Force Unleashed and a few Wii games next time.

Thanks for the help guys. 👍 Even though we argued a bit :p.

Never noticed. Last time I checked I saw it was over said amount new,

That is the key word, of course a new sealed copy will sell for more.

but... yeah. I do think PS2 games ARE losing their value but still, 9 outdated PS2 games are still worth more than $2.85.

To you maybe, most other people think a quarter at a yard sale is asking a tad too much.

Just be happy they even offered to take the sports games as I know the GameStop by me won't take any over 2 years old.

THIS is why I sell my stuff on Craigslist now. 👍

We don't have Gamestop here. But we do have a few major stores that still sell and trade 'Retro' gear and titles. N64, Dreamcast, PS1/2 SNES, NES. Pretty neat.
