In real life the car had a 5 speed gearbox, but in the game it has 6. There is also flames popping out of the exhausts in the game. I thought diesels don't pop flames out of exhausts. Then again, the last time I saw footage of the R10 in real life was two years ago. Did Audi change things up?

Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Edit: The Peugeot also spits out flames.

They are also pritty load. Wrong aswell.
The R10 also should have been faster then both the Bentley Speed8 and R8, but the AI controlled R10 has no chance against the Bentley. Never saw a 908 AI controlled car.

Back when R10 was running the manufacturers were dialing their engine down to NOT have lots of overrun and minimize smoke, mostly because they don't want diesel to be associated to be like buses and stuff...But as cars got faster due to Audi and Peugeot pushing each other they are running the engine more aggressively...most report last year(2010) mentioned that there are a lot more visible smoke coming out of the diesel cars....

And yeah, R10 had only a 5 speed gearbox...so did its replacement R15. Only til now the new R18 has went back to 6 speed...

Go to arcade mode, single player, choose difficult setting and use a LMP normal stock car. Choose La Sarthe or any track and there you will see an AI controlled Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. ;)

Just saw the new R18, and boy is it ugly.

Audi sport just reused the R15 tdi plus to add the closed cockpit view. Yeah the front looks awful, more like a platypus. Though the side and back are looking great! :)

I liked the R10 and the R15 (had a sharp front end with the LEDs), and I liked how the open cockpit was their thing and the closed ones Peugeot's thing, but man, the R18 is just plain ugly. Your right, front looks like a platypus, and the rear looks too jumbled.

Their reason to go closed car is a valid one, since they are now no longer pitstop time limited and that with smaller engine and less power, aero efficiency is even more important now..

The car is very different from R15 still..which I am still disappointed that its not in GT5 since even in the Goodwood video on GT TV that you can see Kaz intently checking the car out...

It's ugly, but it certainly has a style to it...

Kinda like the definition of a new Diesel! At least there must be a reason why it is that Ugly. It doesn't even look that aerodynamic. xD

Well, compared to a Beaut like the 908..... One thing I find cool about LMP's is that in theory they could all be made two-seaters... For a Modern Mille Miglia that would be awesome.

Imagine a Co-Driver trying to concentrate on notes in that thing!?

I don't know about it being faster than those but it should be close to the 908. Sadly it seems to be about the weakest of the lot.

R18 is ugly????!!! The thing is legendarily menacing. Next you'll be saying the interior lacks amenities. What do you guys want? A flower holder in the dash? Anyhow, this is a full press statement as to why this thing is so "ugly":

Make sure you hit the show press release button, fools at autoblog can't even plagiarize properly, they usually have good photos though...

Already seen that. Don't worry, Audi may surprise us with the livery. ;)

Back to a V6 TDI?:odd: Should be interesting..

The Audi R18 looks like the X2010

Note: the X2010 picture is taken by Viper6000. and all credits need to go to him.

I like that the new Audi is not open top.

The 908 HDi feels very spaceship like when driving in cockpit view, with tat little space and narrow viewing angle, it's an interesting ride.

It'll be a very quick car in the corners, extremely stable, and if honest, probably quicker all told, perhaps a little less on straights, but when it comes to cornering, the aids on that thing...

May look great with the red and silver livery.

That's a Peugeot 908 with Audi Sport livery! & yes, the R10 is a screw up in the game compared to real life! Has 6 gears in the game & 5 in real life & diesel's don't spit out flames, the only thing coming out of diesel exausts is black smoke!

Or sold as road cars :P. Imagine that... xD

Audi R10 does only have 5 gears on the real car. This is correct :P.

saw the r10 tdi @ dtm @ norrisring last year pretty cool but ur right.. didnt see flames pop out the exthausts

I found out another small detail that PD got wrong also. The R10 also has brake shrouds that cover the entire disk brake, so any brake glow under heavy braking is not visible. In GT5, you can see those brake disks glow like the sun. The same applies to the Peugeot I think.

PD got the little things about the Veyron right, and the Murcielago right, but somehow completely glossed over the small characteristics that made the diesel racers unique.

I'm not complaining about it, I just feel its an oversight from PD that has said to love details.

Actually the F1 won't change that before 2013 - and right now many manufactors still oppose it.

Actually changing engines will make F1 a bit more interesting, seeing as they already squeezed a lot of potential out of V8s and V10.

I would like to see what they can do with a turbo four. Why not turbo V6s?
