Did Polyphony Digital purposely boost the HP of the stock Mazda RX8?

In GT4, the 2003 Mazda RX8 was listed at some 28x horsepower from the original 250 bhp and because the game was kinda rushed, I thought it could be an error there. Fast forward to today and its listed as having 285 bhp stock in GT5P. Thus I went to check http://www.rx-8.mazda.co.jp/ and although they are of the newer models Type RS and Type S, but all RX8s there are 235 bhp stock. PD error or they mistook the 3 as 8 on the website? Its not a big deal here, I love the car but I would have really loved if they have it 'stock' then 'semi tuned' some how in its current state. That or maybe in some regions this car is actually 285 bhp stock? Please correct me.:)

It's not 285 anywhere.

The RX8 in Gran Turismo is based off of the RX8 concept, which was claimed, at the time, to produce around that much. They lowered the estimate for production... and then had to lower it again when it turned out that the RX8 produced much less power on the dyno than other cars with the same claimed power rating. Had something to do with reprogramming and emissions control for production models, and it wasn't the first time Mazda was caught overstating power outputs (though I doubt that this was intentional... it's likely something to do with the differences between preproduction engines and production engines, again, programming, emissions and stuff).

Looks like they got lazy again and carried over the power rating. Is the RX8 in the game the Tokyo concept? Or production model? PD do this over and over again... they did the same thing with the Corvette in GT4. Re-labelled it as a later year model but carried over the power ratings and physics model of the Corvette in GT3. It's just a production glitch.

Very good points and this means the RX-8 is much more difficult to race with in 500pp events because the HP cannot be lowered:indiff: I found myself having to max out the weight and stick N3 tyres on just to get under 500pp:crazy:

If the HP was similar to the Type-S model in GT4 (240?) then this car would make many more appearances in these events:idea:

Thanks for the info, now it actually makes sense! Really hope PD doesnt slip up with these sort of mistakes though; I thought RX8s were pretty popular for them to even screw up the stats twice.
