why do I have the feeling that you have purchased at least 1 vehicle in each of those categories in the past year?

A couple gesses off'n the top of my head.

Did you know the most powerful 1.3L engine makes 145-horsepower more than the least-powerful 1.3L engine?

That would be the RX-8 and the Metro...but is it fair to compare rotary to piston engines?

Did you know the most powerful 4.6L engine makes 173-horsepower more than the least-powerful 4.6L engine?

Guessing....'Stang Cobra and Explorer.

Did you know the most powerful 5.7L engine makes 75-horsepower more than the least-powerful 5.7L engine?

Guessing...the CTS-V engine and the Silverado engine....?

Since we all know this is my best thread ever, because it's a niche thread, I'll tell you the answers to your guesses.

The most powerful 1.3L is obviously the 238-horsepower rotary in the Mazda RX-8, but the least powerful and only other 1.3L engine on the market (2004!) is the Honda Civic Hybrid's 93-horsepower four-cylinder.

Did you know the most powerful 4.6L engine makes 173-horsepower more than the least-powerful 4.6L engine?

You got the top one - the 390-horsepower 4.6L supercharged V8 is probably the most powerful 4.6L of all time. The least powerful isn't the Explorer (the Explorer's V8 is actually 239-horsepower, along with the Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Mercury Mountaineer), but rather the Land Rover Discovery, which puts out a pathetic 217-horsepower from Land Rover's ancient 4.6L V8.

Did you know the most powerful 5.7L engine makes 75-horsepower more than the least-powerful 5.7L engine?

The Cadillac CTS-V actually makes five horsepower less than the top 5.7, which is in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The least powerful 5.7 is - surprise, surprise - in the Dodge Durango's 5.7L Hemi V8, which makes 330-horsepower. Second-lowest is also a Hemi V8 - the Ram's, which makes 345-horsepower.

Not true!!! Just three or four of them. About six, if you count used.

Doug, you should develop a questionaire that scientifically identifies an individual's ideal vehicle. You could sell you services as a car matchmaker. Your clients would fill out the questionaire, then you would analyze it, determining the best car for them. You go and buy the car, saving a lot with your superior negotiation skills, and turn it over to your satisfied client, who has already written you a juicy check for more than you bougt their car for. They will love their new car. You offer a money back guarantee, and you can afford it because you are alwyas right about these things.

Average schmoes love this sort of thing, and you grow rich and fat on your expertise

Actually I've been doing the exact opposite for the last month or so for Volkswagen - I analyse the demographics of various car owners - so rather than analysing the car, I analyse the person. Either way, it's clearly the perfect job for me.

Perhaps surprisingly, I'm not particularly good at knowing what sort of car someone should have unless I know them casually rather than just "I need x horsepower and room for y and z features".
