Hello folks,

I've been a fan of the GT series for years but have always played with the handset.

With the release of GT5P and GT5 on it's way I decided to go the whole hog and bought a playseat and G25.

The problem is, I'm much slower with the wheel than with the handset! :grumpy: sometimes by up to a second! :dunce:

So much so that I haven't even taken it online yet for fear of wrecking somebody else's race!

My question is, did anybody else suffer the same fate after the change from handset to wheel and did they get any better with practice! :)

Or am I the only Muppet round these here parts!
Cheers

Just noticed the typo in the title of thread sorry - Did your lap times get worse after the change?

well not really...as i drive in real life every day,i found the transition quite easy...i think it took me about 2 or 3 days to really be faster and totally confident with the wheel(dfp,3/4 years ago)

so i guess its an individual thing....

spyrrari.

I made the change to a DFP back when GT4 arrived, and I went nuts because I was fairly fast in GT3 using the DS2, and I felt inconsistent (I kept spining one corner after another) and slow during the first weeks using it, I even thought about giving up and continue using the DS2. Then I was fast enough to gold the license tests with my eyes closed, and play online and keep the pace of the fastest guys I know.

I bought the G25 about a year ago and now I just can't go back to the Sixaxis, I pretty suck much with it.

I switched from Driving Force Pro to G25 recently and I'm about 1-2 sec off my DFP pace.
Clutching, healtoe downshifting is breaking my rhythm but I am also enjoying GT5p so much more now, and slowly seeing improvements in my times.

I got my G25 today and have just about managed to catch up with my sixaxis times. (did spend all day using it though).

at the minute i feel pretty inconsistent and when it starts to get abit sideways it can be pretty hard to catch.

i did match my time on GT academt though.

I guess its just practice. Keep using it and you will get quicker and quicker

I went from the DS2 to the DFP in GT4

At first I could only match my DS2 times at easy tracks.

Then I could match my DS2 times everywhere with practice.

DFP >>>>>>>>>> DS2/SIXAXIS anyday. No thumb sores/blisters, its much more comfortable and realistic. I don't care if I am slower with a wheel then SIXAXIS users in GT5P, I'll take the experience of driving with a wheel over speed anyday.

Indeed, so do I, but playing GT5P with the G25 is not exaclty the same as real driving is it? You cant "feel" the car like you can in real life.

I drive my Caterham (copy) in real life and it's far easier than using the G25. If I was as bad in real life as I am at the moment with the G25, I would have trashed my cars years ago :dopey: :)

aha,but the difference between a game pad and a game wheel makes it so much more realistic that it does come close to the "real" thing.....so yes it is still a computergame, but it doesn't get any better than this untill...eeehh...gt5...!!!:sly:

so, you've driven your caterham at the same speed around suzuka as you did in the game? :P

I always believed that the slalom licence tests in GT3 and GT4 would have been a hell of a lot easier in a real car because you'd be able to judge grip and space better than on the game. Without fail, they're always the challenges I take longest to get gold on!

I sure hope I'll be better on a wheel than a pad because if I want a top twenty time on the GT Academy I may resort to getting a wheel!

But are comparing the times driving in professional physics with assistance turned off or set to minimum. Personally, I can't drive with pro physics using Dualshock 3 without spinning out.

When I first got my DFP for GT4P initially I could not match my DS2 times but I engoyed it much more, within a couple days I could match my DS2 times and never looked back.

Now when I have a quick shot to kill time and use the DS3 on GT5P I have no hope matching my G25 times (pro physics no aids). You should match you sixaxis/ds3 lap times soon enough with practice.
