Did You Reassign the Reverse Gear on Your DFGT?

I just got the wheel tonight. Outside of the question, a few thoughts...

1. Honestly, IMO Force Feedback doesn't feel like real driving. I wish I could turn it off altogether. The road doesn't violently attack your steering wheel that way, IMO, unless you hit a pothole. :dunce: It does improve actually if you turn power steering (whatever it's called) OFF, and put the wheel on simulation. The resistance is much smoother and consistent when reacting to cornering that way, IMO.

2. I'm already getting blisters. :ouch:

3. I wish there was a way to increase the angle that is affected by the amount of steering you are doing with the wheel. I'm using manual transmission, which means that I'm driving one-handed a lot of the time, and on some of the faster turns which are on the sharper side, I have a hard time turning at a high enough degree to take them because the wheel isn't putting enough of an angle into the turn.

4. This wheel might actually improve my posture. My back is getting a workout from sitting up straight for so long. Lol. :dopey:

5. Reverse is incredibly hard to get into quickly, especially if you've just spun out, or if you are steering in any direction at a high pace. So I'm wondering if other DFGT users have reassigned the reverse gear from the triangle button to something else because of this.

Thanks.

Give it more time to get used to it! I bought a DFGT just before GT5 came out and it took about 5 hours until I got in the groove.

As for adjustability and comfort you'll probably end up with doing the sane thing as me and ordering a Fanatec...

Yep, I have Reverse mapped to GearStick forward, and GearStick back is handbrake. Manual gears on paddles.
I would have used the gear stick for gears but it's on the wrong side of the wheel :grumpy:

What he said! Originally I used this setup for drifting but found it useful if I ever spun out in a race, not sure how he has worded it but I use pull for handbrake and push for reverse.

As far as your comments on force feedback are concerned, in my opinion, the FFB in Gran Turismo has always been questionable. I think it would feel a lot better if they would just let us turn "Environmental Effects" off like a lot of other games do. That way you only feel the car pushing or pulling the wheel in one direction or another rather than the kerbs violently vibrating the wheel for no apparent reason. I thought my wheel was broke when I first starting playing GT4 with my DFGT until I played Dirt 1 & 2 and realized its just Gran Turismo's FFB setting. Same thing for GT4, GT5P, and GT5.

If you ever get a chance to play "Race On" on a computer you will realize that the DFGT has plenty of FFB ability, its so buttery smooth on that game.

I'm enjoying it more. I realized that turning wheel assists off actually makes the response much more consistent. I'm enjoying it, and building myself a very cheap "wheel stand" tomorrow. Hopefully it's sturdy enough and I'll be having a lot more fun with my new wheel. Otherwise, I'd love to get a hold of a RennSport wheel stand, but they're really backlogged right now. :(

I need to try this out myself. I have found GT5 to be quite difficult with the wheel, although I'm probably only about 2.5hrs into playing with it. Then I fired up F1 2010 and found the wheel much more natural and intuitive.

Don't start complaining about reversing until you get a G25 or G27 . I have a G27 and if I am driving clutch and I have spun out I have to put it in Neutral, push down in a certain special way and then pull it down to 6th while still pushing it down. I then clutch in, reverse and clutch in again to go back to first. That is quite alot of effort to reverse. Then there is the reverse while using paddle shifters (auto clutch). You have to reach over the wheel to hit the triangle button and then steer the wheel however many times over with one hand while holding the button with the other.

Yeah....you guys have it a fair bit easier :D.

EDIT: Just realised you guys can map your buttons too. If I could map them I would have reverse on the wheel in a heartbeat.
