Diesel Car fuel economy

Do the diesel cars last longer on a full tank in endurance races than petrol cars?

There were a few threads a while ago that tested the 908 and R10 and I think the difference was negligible to non-existent.

I used a Peugeot 908 Hdi FAP and X2010 in the Laguna Seca 200miles...

For me X2010 had better fuel economy but apparently in long races yeah diesels last longer on one tank...

R10 TDi is a diesel aswell duhh...

I meant that they tested those two cars to see if they had better economy than a gas/petrol car. I guess my first post was a bit poorly written.

A better way to test would be with the BMW 120i and 120d as they're the same car other than the engine.

I did some fiddling around with the two in GT4, and they didn't seem to be any different. GT5 may be different, though.

I did a comparison of the 120i and the 120d over a number of laps on the Rome circuit as I knew it well. The 120i was marginally more economical! I can't remember which topic it was in now as it was a while ago.

Just tried both the 120i and 120d at Nurburgring. Did 2 separate laps with each and both needed 5 liters of fuel. No difference.

Bummer. I guess that isn't taken into account then. I don't expect actual fuel economy specs for each car, but some sort of modifier for different types of engines would be nice.

Now I'm curious how similar all the cars are. A VW GTI compared to an M5 for example, same fuel economy?
