Different Cups for stupid cars...what gives?

Well I thought I would just put this out there: Why are there entire series devoted to stupid cars, like the Vitz and the Volkswagen Beetle? I know some people like racing with these cars, but what about a Skyline series, or a Corvette series? True, we have the GT and Stars & Stripes, but they're open to more than one car, unlike the Altezza race or the Tuscan Challenge, which have all the same cars racing together. Or maybe there could be a race just for RUF cars or just for Lotus or something. These cars are all fun to drive, some might venture to say more so than the Vitz or any of the Lightweight Sports Cars. Or how about a Trueno Challenge?

First off, if there wasn't a series for these cars (Pitz, Beetle, Miata, and Lightweight) very few of us would know how cool these cars can be, because we would avoid them like the plague.
Did you know that a well set up Lupo or Beetle can run away with the FF series in Pro?
You will note that there are two different sets of races for Skylines, and two for Lancers.(Red Emblem and Evolution Series)
There is also a set of races, and a series that are perfect for the Lotus. (British car cup in Pro, and the Elise series)
As for the RUF cars, have you heard of the Boxer Challenge? Granted, in Amateur it's all about the Subies. But in Pro, it's all about the "Porsches".

Frankly, the only valid point in your little rant, is the absence of a race for the Trueno.

Have you gone far enough in the game to notice this, or are you simply blowing off steam as we all wait impatiently for GT4 to be released?

Ahem, I wasn't ranting but merely trying to start a thread where some interesting ideas could be shared. If you weren't so set on shooting people down, you might be able to add something interesting yourself. My point was that, though some of the series you mentioned are good for certain cars, I would like to see more one-car-specific cups involving some more of the cooler cars in the game; the ones which are more fun to drive. The problem with cups like British is that you can race whatever you want. The same is true, to a lesser extent, with the Boxer series, and the result is that more attention is paid to the type of car instead of the type of driving.

That we would avoid certain cars if given the choice is maybe a sign that many gamers are not interested in having them in the game at all. And besides, I was not suggesting that the Vitz, etc. series be removed, only that other series be added.

And I have completed the game several times, though just recently have discovered GTP. And I don't have any Subies in my garage, and only drive RUFs for the Boxer challenge. I hate Evos and all FF cars, and guess what? I'm allowed to, just like every other GT3 player is allowed his favourite and least favourite cars. Start your own thread so I can come in and pick you apart.

I totally agree!! I would be cool to have for instance a Dodge Viper-contest, Mazda Rx-7-cup, Toyota Supra-challenge or even a Ford GT-40 league!

These are all great cars, and would be alot more fun to race against their equals!

I also would like to add that I find it to be way to many mitsubishi evo's in the game.. why do we need 57 different versions of this car, can someone please tell me? :yuck:

I think the idea of these one make series, is to turn the emphasis off the cars themselves, and to place it firmly on the skills of the drivers. Much like the real life one make series. Of course you can still make your car heapos quicker and a better handler, but that gap than can be so big between you and the field is somewhat narrowed.
You have to out drive the opposition. Not just flog them on the final straight

I agree with you on some of this especially the BEEEETLE heh. They actually have a real Beetle Cup racing event I think every year. Why not have it in the game of a race that actually occurs in real life as well displaying the capabilities of our little insect? :) :sly:

I resent having to buy a TT only to end up winning one.

There should be an option to hire a car for a one make race series. Although you should have to pay for it if you damage it. 💡

If it didn't have such series, the game would be a cakewalk, thus making it much less interesting, and thereby killing the GT franchise for future games.

Starting from the bottom, You can try to pick my threads apart if you please. I tend to be a bit better researched, and a bit more reserved. I also allow that I'm sometimes wrong. That alone will probably make the activity of "picking me apart" a lot less fun.
If you don't want me picking apart what you say, pleas note the first line of my sig.
Re-read your first post from the view point of someone that doesn't know you. Your first statement questions why there are series for stupid cars. Did you mean "stupid" as a compliment? Forgive me if I missed that.

I personally (now that you've made yourself a lot more clear) would love to see more manufacturers cups (a'la GT2). I would also welcome the chance to race some of the more "interesting" cars. I would like to see a Mustang cup, A Vette Cup, A Viper cup, A cup for the Esprit, and I like more GT-300 cars, and a race series that supports them.

If I hit your sensitive button, I'm sorry. In your first post, You sounded like an uninformed newb, (You said the game needed a race for Skylines only, for instance--It has two such races) and your initial post did indeed sound like you wanted to be shed of the Vitz cup, and the FF cup, and the VW cup. I wasn't shooting you down. Believe me if that was my intent, you'd know. The  smiley was intended to tell you that I was delivering my "diatribe" a bit tongue in cheek. You know what they say about people with no sense of humor. (**** 'em) (that was humor by the way, not sarcasm/insult).

Since my second or third time thru the game, I have a tendency to be a bit of a "purist". (I don't take F1's to run against street cars, or ordinary racers, and I like to run against like cars. I want to win, but I want to do it on my skilz, not on a 200 HP advantage over the AI)
I don't frown on you for liking what you like. That is your perogative. I'm just saying that of all the interesting cars in this game it would be a shame to avoid the "lesser" cars. Take that anyway you choose.

I AGREE!
At least you should win a LM-Edition or something like that, and not a completely similar car to the one you just bought!
That would indeed be cool.
You can win a TT in the amateur league in the American series, if my memory serves.
Hope that saves you some 40,000 CR.:D

That was very frustrating the, oh, five or six times it would happen to me. I hope PD designs GT4 a lot better this time, and offers some better prize cars.

That's correctomundo! But why the h*** do you win it in the American series, and not the European?? After all, Audi is German!
Instead, in the European series you can win a couple of Nissan Skylines which offcourse belongs in the Japanese series!!!

Puzzled? I know I am! :dopey:

Well, I can understand someone misreading my "stupid cars" comment, but in fact every time I mention how much I hate the Vitz and Lightweight Sports Car Cup, people rush to defend them, claiming they are an important part of the game. But I don't think they should be removed, because GT3 is all about driving realism, and the more cars the better. I know I am about the billionth person to gripe about the fact that GT3 sacrificed number of cars and track variety for better graphics and more realistic handling, but I have a sneaking suspicion that GT4 will not completely satisfy gamers' requests, and so I decide to gripe away.

And if I had the choice of a) having the Vitz, the Beetle, the Mini and other such low-end, low-HP, FF cars, and the cups and series that go with them to force gamers to buy them and actually drive them, or b) getting rid of these cars and cups for more races involving the cars we use more often in the game, I would choose b) every time, and say to hell with the crappy Vitz. In fact, I'm changing my signature to "Down with the Vitz!"

Plenty of interesting posts in that thread.
I would never have driven a Vitz or a Beetleif I didn't have to. But I have to admit I had great fun racing the Vitz cup. That system give some visibility to neglected cars
I think the cars entering a cup should be 100% identicals , the Vitz cup being a good example.
On the other hand, the Type-R meeting is not. the cars in that serie are not equals.

A Trueno Apex serie would be great. A Celica TRD serie too ( Isn't there a real TRD Celica feature serie in F1 or Cart race driven by celebrities like actors etc...? ) or a Mini Cooper 1300S serie.

Other point: I'm in favour of o serie with a HP limit like in GT2 but with a closer match: In GT2 you can sweep the competition if your car is 1 or 5 HP under the limit.

I resent having to buy a TT only to end up winning one.
Come on daan, you sounf like someone on welfare. Everyone on this forum know you are filthy credits rich. I've heard that you even transfered some of your GT3 credits to Switzerland and the Caiman Islands.

It would be nice if PD could put some of the better parts of GT1 and GT2 in GT4.
From GT1 I would like to know the HP of the opposition.
From GT2 I would like HP limits for races. (However, the HP limits were/are rather liberal in GT2.)
I also like the "stricter" controls of what cars can be raced in each series in GT1 and GT2. You couldn't show up at a FF car race with a FR car. etc. One of the only real "cheats" in GT2 was the ability to show up the the Classic car races with the RX-7 GT-C for the 295 HP limit Race. But since the game often breaks out a 310 HP GT-40 for the same race, I figure using the RX-7 is fair.

I'd also have liked it if PD had allowed us to run the S2000's we win in the Type-R cups. I know that the Spoon Civic is quite formidable. I've beaten the NSX with it in the Type-R series. But I'd still like a shot at the NSX with the S2k.

I'd also like some better planning in "the cars you win" department. It should be possible to go thru the entire game and never be "required" to buy a car. But on the other hand, you have to buy a ton of cars to complete GT2, so I guess having to buy only two cars to complete GT3 is acceptable.

The restrictions for car entry are tighter in GT3 than they were for GT2.
IN GT2 the following races were open to any car which was under the HP limit:
K class car, Station wagon cup, 4 door luxury car cup, Muscle car cup, Historic car cup, 80 series cup, open car cup.
3 of the above races are in GT3 (k class, open and 80's) which all have restrictions.

Mostly that is true. But you can show up to a lot of races in GT3 with an F1 car also.
I can't wait to see the "treasures" of GT4.

The Vitz cup was ok but not that great. I did it like 3 times so i could get a Altezza LM and the most boring part of it was the Test Course race (ive fallen asleep more than once doing races there) I want a race like the Vitz cup with low horsepower cars (The Trueno would be the madest) but on slower speed street tracks where you have very few chances to pass per lap and it all comes down to bveing patient and knowing where to pass and where to follow. A cup like this but with higher power cars such as the Skyline would be cool to.

What if Polyphony keeps that 4-car random prize, but it takes account on what you have in the garage ? Like if you already have one prize car, the prize for the race is a random between the other 3. If you already have all, it will be a random between all 4.

Hope you understood what i meant ;)
