Series: race of NA sports
Race: Tokyo R46?? (i forget tha damn names)

CAR: Spoon Sports Civic @ 360hp

ive had no diffculty deafeating the zonda in the other NA races, however when it comes to this course the car pulls away on me like crazy. ive been using the same techniques to win as the other races and have had great success, however they do not seem very effective on this course. i plan on winning this series with my spoon civic because i just want a challenge, i deafeated it in an s2k a while ago. any FF drivers here got some insight and wisdom to share?

i ahve the most out of this car! thats why ive been winning the other races in the same category against the same opponent, its just this damn course.

I don't remember names either, but if this is the daytime course then your problem is that it is made for cars with massive top speed. The spoon handles and brakes in amazing fashion, but doesn't have nearly enough power. I'm not saying it isn't possible but just practice practice practice, get a good setup, and practice.

The corners that make big differences I've fond are the 2nd/3rd one and the 7/8 set.

The first one you kinda have to slide a little or what not I've found, and you can setup to clip on the left side just barely and pretty much turn it into a soft left then right turn set.

The other set, 7/8, which are those two right turns following the little kink, seem to have a great deal of options on how you take them, and the AI tends to have some issues there as well.

Hope that helps at all.

About FF driving in general, I go wtih a little oversteer under moderate trail braking, and have found that going a little deep into some corners lets you line up much sooner depending on the lay of the course, which might cost you a position on entry, but keeps you out of the crowd, and generally lets you exit quickly...

Try not breaking on the longer corners. I think with the Spoon you only have to break about 6 timesa lap.

:dopey: ...if you have the NSX s, try to use that instead, and you relly need to work out a.... rhythm on this track, especially in turn 5/6 (after the lil zig-zag)or is it called...chicane..hehehe...anyways, the turns prior to the down ramp..... BTW, don't forget, they are on....rails!! :scared: .... :sly:

:dopey: ..but...really,....what the heck, if you're up against the C12, why not use yourself a race car??...do you have any?? ........... i'll lend you one of mine, if you want?? 💡 ...just don't crash it up, ok?.... :sly:

Erm... if you actually read everything, you would have realized that he is doing this for a challange, he has already completed the race before.

Also, double posting is kind of a waste, espcialy 4 minutes apart...

Demon has a point, some of the longer corners you don't really need to brake on, maybe just let of the gas a little to get the turn in to start.

Adjust your rear toe to -2. Also raise the back of the car by about 10mm. That will give you a faster turn in. Also bias your brakes to the rear. (19/24)
Also what is your MOL (margin of loss).
You may also consider using the hardest tires possible, if you aren't already. He'll have to pit and you won't.
You may also have to consider a car that has more HP potential.
Run the qualifier just to see what kind of lap times the Zonda is posting. If you can stay within 1 sec. per lap and your tires last, and his don't you should win.

The Zonda in GT3 is a pig (which is a shame because it is such a wonderful car). It has a ton of grunt, thus it will spank you on the front straight. But you little civic, with it's smaller wheelbase, will handle the turns much better. Put T2s on the car and try to stick within 10 seconds from the zonda. His tires will give up before yours and you should be able to make up the gap he pulls on you after his first pit. From there stay smooth, especially in the corners. On the straight try to draft with any other cars and if the zonda comes up behind you block him.

Tokyo vs. cars that have alot of grunt (like the zonda) is very hard, especially since the AI doesn't mind wall riding. The spoon civic, even though it sounds like a powerdrill, isn't that bad (not my taste) but this race should be win-able.

If you want to even the odds a bit take a NSX-R with full engine and suspension mods, no power mods though (keep it around 300hp), and T3s of T4s....that would be more fun that any civic.

:)

...The Zonda, pits at the end of lap 9, so, only one lap to go.......???.... good luck keeping up to it with the Spoon Civic and Super slicks........

OK...ran this one tonight, just for kicks because I was curious if it could be done. On paper the Zonda should win, even the slower c12 on it's grunt alone...but the Spoon civic with it's 18,000+rpm really holds it's own more than I expected.

All laps are raced to OLR standards, meaning no wall riding, no contact with the AI and 2 wheels on the circuit at all times.

So I bought a Spoon civic from my old OLR memory card which has all the cars in the game, at 0 miles. I then added all parts I could including T2s and got an oil change maxing the HP out at 326 before I ran a single mile.

Here are the settings I used;

Spring Rate 12.0/10.0
Ride Height 85/90
Shock Bound 4/4
Shock Rebound 7/7
Camber 1.5/0
Toe 0.5/0.0
Stabilizers 7/6

Brake balance 12/24

Initial 5/0
Accel 40/0
decel 10/0

Gears
1 4.061
2 2.753
3 2.018
4 1.550
5 1.248
6 1.054
Final 4.400

I went to Tokyo in the pro/NA race

I reloaded the race 3 times and couldn't get a grid with the zonda on it, it was the Viper GtS...so I said screw it and ran it. Results below;

Qualifiying (on T2s - one outlap, one timed lap);
Spoon Civic Type-R (J) 1'50.966
Viper GTS 1'52.489
NSX Type-S -
Motor Sports Elise -
ZZS (J) -
Clio Sport V6 24v 1'58.611

POLE BY: 1.523

The Viper took off on the line (I tend to spin the tires badly) and I was mainly racing the NSX for the first lap and a half. Once I finally cleared the NSX and my tires warmed up I caught the Viper by lap 3, he pitted at lap 7, taking himself well out of the race (The elise passed him and pitted on lap 9). I had over a 30 second lead on the Viper when he pitted, race over by lap 4. I didn't pit, but could have easily on any lap I wanted to after lap 5. But my T2s never needed it, even at lap 10 the front were yellow, just turning orange and the rears just turning yellow.

Results (on T2s)
Spoon Civic 18'29.481
Elise +41.482
Viper +43.052
ZZS +52.817
NSX +52.902
Clio +1'44.358

Fastest lap: 1'48.947 (lap 5)

So that being an easy victory and me having a feel for the car I reloaded the race 8 more times and finally got the grid with a Zonda on it. Now this car is not a car I would ever drive unless I was forced to or for a challenge like this, it is even low on my FF car list, not that I don't like FF cars (I LOVE the VW New Bettle 2.0 and Lupo Race cars) but this one is just not my taste at all. :yuck: I gained a few HP in engine break in so the Civic was up to 328hp now. I went straight to qualifying, no changes to my tuning.

Qualifiying (on T2s - one outlap, one timed lap);
Spoon Civic Type-R 1'48.585
Zonda C12 1'49.792
Griffith 500 1'52.668
NSX Type-S 1'52.953
ZZS 1'56.658
Clio Sport V6 1'58.252

POLE BY: 1.207

I was a bit shcoked how easy it was to get pole, especially on cold T2s. I attribute the faster pole for my better feel for the car after the last race. This race The Zonda and Griffith spanked me off the line, I spun my tires as usual. By the end of Lap one the Zonda was 3 seconds ahead of me while the Griffith was giving me trouble at every corner. I finally cleared the griffith for good after the first turn on the 3rd lap. At the end of the 3rd lap the Zonda had 5+ seconds on me. By lap 6 I had managed to stop the bleeding and maintain a 5-6 second gap from the Zonda depending on which T I was at. By lap 7 the Zonda's tires started giving up (I assume he was on T3s maybe?) so I pulled the gap in to under 3 seconds by the time he pitted on lap 9. From there it was an easy final lap, no worries. I even managed to lap the Clio on the final lap on the front/straight a few seconds before the start/finish.

Results (on T2s)
Spoon Civic 18'11.249
Zonda C12 +17.808
Griffith +46.291
ZZS --
NSX --
CLio + 1 lap

Fastest lap: 1'47.598 (lap 7)

So ya...the Spoon Civic can beat the Zonda C12 at Tokyo, I didn't think it could this morning.

I could have fussed with the settings a bit more and cut another .5-.8seconds off the final time...and with T8s and OLR hot lapping I bet you could cut another second or two off the best time. Really fast OLR guys 3+ seconds...

Fun race, I hope this helps you.

(Maybe this belongs in the GT3 write-ups section - hahahaha)

:)
Actually, the C12 in GT3 is a fairly fine car. It is much better than the C12S.
If the C12S had some brakes, and was a bit less prone to push thru the turns it would be a great car.

I agree. Maybe "pig" is too harsh for the Zonda, but of MR road cars in GT3 the C12s is on the bottom of my list. Give me a RUF 3400s, NSX-R, Elise 190 in that order.

What is wrong with it? It's braking it horrible, even worst that the NSX, but unlike the NSX the Zonda doesn't have a smoothness to make up for it. The C12s neither sticks (like the NSX-R) nor slips (Like the Elise 190), either end I could deal with, but it just sorta mushes around corners. One you add power to them they become even less fun to drive. I can't put my finger on exactly why, other than the above, but neither feels "natural" or nice to drive.

I agree the C12 is a better drive, but a base NSX-R or S is faster and i can tune the Elise 190 to be faster still.

I must have spent months trying to tune both the c12 and c12s to be fun cars to drive and I never could. It is a shame because I love the car in real life, I saw one in person on display in NYC and the car is lust worthy. It is stunningly beautiful and everything I have read about it in auto press (mostly british) just praises it's handling and "feel".

I hope PD fixes it's "feel" in GT4.

Now the Zonda Race isn't so bad, but unfortunately considering it is a GT-S car I'd much rather drive the Viper or even Panoz....and especially the Gillet Vertigo. So agian I rarely ever drive the Zonda race.

....it's more challenging...if you don't qualify first and start at the back....

Probably. The Viper would still be easily beatable, but probably only by 20-30 seconds. The Zonda would be close though, when he pits on lap 9 he would probably have a 10 second gap on you, that is if you were running 1'47 and 1'48s consistently. A 10 second gap would still give you a 8-9 second winning margin though.

I ran the qualifier because I didn't want to fight with the back markers.
Weren't you the same one who said you couldn't keep up with the Zonda on T2s? Well I proved you could, now you want me to start from the back...fine, I'll do it tonight.
