I asked my wife for GT6 for Christmas - but incase she doesn't get it for me - is there a speed difference between the two versions? Or does the cd install on the hd? I know Gt5 had the option in game to install some of the game on the hd for faster access speeds.

I can tell your old school  (cd's :)). Anyway, I've been hearing that the digital download is a bit better - in some instances. With the disc version (as I use one), everything loads pretty quick, way faster than GT5! While GT6 doesn't have an option for "full install", it installs and stores game data as you go. So in return, you'll eventually get faster loading times as most of the data will be installed.

This is where digital might be the way to go, it installs the whole game right from the start.

As I mentioned, I use the disc (blu ray) version, and have no issues with it. It was a little slower in the first day or two but now, snappy and smooth as can be. There was a finding in another thread on how to speed up the "on-demand" installation. You pretty much leave the game on and let the demo run for a few hours, it'll eventually install everything as it plays!

Good luck on your choice.

I purchased the download version because I wanted to still play GT5 without having to switch out disks. Load up times are pretty good, but I do suffer from crashes sometimes when I start GT6. Hopefully those issues will be addressed with updates.

The digital version definitely loads quicker even taking into account the 'gradual install' thing of the Disc version.

I have 2 friends that have the disc version, I have the digital, and they both have seen my digital version and commented that load times are much quicker.

I have Blu-ray disc.

Game Data size: 8765MB

Load time from pressing 'X' on PS3 XMB to GT6 main menu & ready to play: 43 seconds.

the samsung has build in garbage collection and trim, just perfect for ps3

every race i can start the moment as the start race button appears and no blu ray noise :)

Is that an SSD?

Is that an SSD?
yes it is

pretty old but a real gem due to its nice price(bought one at its release for 99€ 128gb) and the pretty neat build in functions.

had it first in pc for arma series and other streaming games, but then after being strassed by gt5 loading times i installed in in the ps3, and voilá:
red dead revolver, diablo 3 and gt5 load alot faster, diablo and red dead revolver as dogital downloads at a third of the disc versions.

thats the only reason i bought gt6 digital, first i would have gone with the disc ae. but the loading times are just so damn quick^^.

even patch and the initial install was really fast, no gt6 patch took longer than 1min to install and the 15gb digital install took me around 8min, and thats extrem fast for the slow ps3 hardware full of bottlenecks.

There is no difference between digital or disc version's loading wise if you want to install the disc version faster you just leave it , until it goes into demo mode were it install all the tracks because it needs to to play the demo races. Obviously if you have non standard hardware it will load quicker. But once it is installed its exactly same and d/l version.

I rather have a disc as I collect my games and old systems and when psn finally allocates all it server resources to ps4 , I will still be able to play my game in 10 20 or even 50 years , well I be 81 and still have my disc and you only have memories

well i don´t need memories of old ugly games in 50 years, but thats personal preference.

performance now is more important to me, as i don´t have to waste so much time on loading screens but more on races^^.

Not really a fair comparison then of Disc v Download.
Anyone got download only PSN version with standard HDD that they can time how long it takes to load?

I got the Disc version and it seems fast, much better than GT5 I think.
On another note: I upgraded to a SSD and now it's even faster.

They load pretty much the same (OEM hardware), the ONLY difference is drive noise - which goes away (mine's completely gone).
