Am just wondering, does the dip in the long corner before the straight ruin everyone else? I always seem to be running a great lap then I either hit it and slide off the track, or go too wide and end up in the grass. So I am wondering, what is the best way to avoid this and still run a reasonably fast corner?

Dip? Please refer to a map of the track, and tell me which corner of the 100+ corners you're talking about, and I'll give you my advice. :)

The long straight before the finish. There is a long sweeping corner leading on to that straight. Comes after the second of the concrete corners. Sorry, I don't know turn numbers or names, I just know the track :dopey:

"Galgenkopf?" Dottinger-Hohe?

Ummm, the main thing is to slow down BEFORE the first apex, enough to hit the second apex. The car will get airborne if you don't slow down enough, and you will go off-track in dramatic fashion.

This is your best bet! I personally run a wheel so I brake under cornering into the first apex but it is easy to lose control with a Dual Shock..

I usually come into that turn a gear less than indicated, in order to be sure I can hold the inside. I lose a bit of entry speed, but it only equates to about .3-.4 seconds lost. Much more tolerable than going wide into the grass.

Remember to enter the corner wide. If you get to close to the first apex too soon, you'll lose control much easier.

Consider it this way:

1: Through Schwalbenschwanz, stay on the concrete
2: In the short chute between the two corners, stay far left
3: When you're JUST about to hit the grass on the outside, turn in, and left off the throttle
3.5: If you're in a high-powered car, brake early
4: stay off of the throttle, and stay away from the inside, until the curbing gets darker
5: Apply the throttle near the darker curbing.

That part is easy for me

Thank you. I will work on it. 👍

If you are coming off the track, then obviously you are driving to fast for the car and corner. There's no technique involved in staying on the track apart from SLOW DOWN and take your time.

Practise with the driving line until you know the best approach as well.

This.

To put it another way: Don't drive through the dip!

Some cars can get away with going farther into it than others, but don't try to go all the way to the curb -- at least if you're not driving something really slow.

Remember that your exit from the second part of that corner is far more important than your entry to the first part. It's a very long turn so make sure you are in the best position to get through the end of it, whatever happens at the beginning(but stay off the grass :) ). You can still go pretty fast into it but you have to allow an extra 3-4 feet for that bump.

Keep your exitement under controll . I think its cause most peaple get too exited and want to get all the speed you can going onto the magnificent streight.

the last corner before the straight is blind, you have to take the corner before you can see the apex.
envision the apex, hit the apex and dial out like a boss.

I approve of that nickname. You're Belgian, ever been?

The one that gets me is that corner that looks similar to the one you can blow right through (in the second half before the straight) and the one that's 2 long corners in the beginning that dips and goes straight before the chicane. Sooo many wrecks there.

Approaching the corner keep to the left, brake a bit and then aim for the deepest part of the dip but try not to hit the curb. If you hit the curb, your right side tyres might lose contact with the road and that'll either make you run wide or make you lose a lot of speed trying to keep it on the tarmac.

If you just take the dip clean, you might prevent your car from going airborne and that way you can give it some welly on exit. In a sense this is the most important corner of the lap since it precedes the longest straight. Any speed you lose here will affect you all the way on the straight.

Here's a good comparison of hitting the curb and not hitting it:

Thank you. This helped a lot

Anyone with a wheel find the dip, about halfway through the track, give an annoying "knock" (G27) no matter who you take the corner. I'm talking about the after the long slight curve to the left that you can take at pretty high speed then bends right for a bit, still high speed, then a moderately tighter left corner followed by a right corner (where the dip is). Another way is, its a a the second corner before the Karousell.

*I don't really know the names but can pretty much draw it out in my head lol.

Every time I take that corner, my wheel knocks, no matter the car, speed, angle, anything. Anyone get's this and finds it annoying?

Bluntified

Is your camber too high because my wheel vibrates if the camber is too high

Kesselchen** (little boiler)

No, it's not that, I usually keep stock camber and toe. It's that one particular corner where it always knocks, no matter what.

Anyone with a G27 or similar, have this?

Are we talking drifting through Kesselchen or racing through Kesselchen? I don't drift through Kesselchen very often, but it's a nice bump at the top. I remember in some cars, it's possible to get airborne there in games, though IRL it's just a light bump.

Racing. Now that you mentioned a bump, maybe that's what causes the knock. I've never visually seen the bump but I can feel it.

Ummm, I'll bring up a map and try to explain it. Moment "bitte"

http://www.nordschleife-erfahren.de/streckenbeschreibung/klostertal/ It's interesting reading about the Nürburgring section you're talking about. I'll quickly translate.

On the straight piece (section) in Klostertal, drive over the "jump-bump" before the right corner. Steer just after the bump. At the apex of the corner, on the inside kerbs, accelerate and carry as much as speed out as possible.

For me, this corner (among others in GT5 and the ring) combined with the online physics bother me at times. If I'm following closely behind someone, or someone is on my bumper following close behind, no matter how or when I brake and downshift, the force pulls both me and the car behind or in front of me to the rails. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does I usually just shake me head while thinking of this image mentally.....

It's important that you hit your markers there. Imagine your apex at the side of the track, before you see it. You can't actually see the apex (in game or IRL) before cresting the bump leading to the corner, and so you need to position yourself advantageously BEFORE the corner, to ensure that you can make it around the corner.
