So we have a manual mode, and an automatic mode, naturally, but ever since the DSG, it hasn't been represented in this game, or any other racing game (that I know of). I just use manual for these cars, but it started me wondering.

For example, the Golf R in real life can be fitted with a manual gearbox, or a dsg, and in the game once you've changed its oil, and added a sports catalytic converter, it has the stock power it was designed to have, then adding an 11kg weight ballast whilst maintaining weight distribution, it has the stock weight as well.

But does it have a DSG gearbox if I don't touch the transmission or the clutch?

It should get 0-60 miles in 5.5 seconds on the speed test in dsg mode, and 5.7 in manual, and I can't help but think I can't replicate that properly in the game; unless I fot a double clutch and leave it in automatic mode.

Same with the Golf MkV GTI, the Scirocco R and any other car with a DSG - how is the best way to replicate driving a DSG, auto or manual, with or without adding a double clutch?

There is no need to add the twin plate clutch.
The cars that comes with dual clutch transmission are already programmed with it in the game.

I drive a mkv GTI with DSG in real life, and the DSG in the Golf and Scirocco R replicates the shifting speed pretty close. Only thing that is missing is the burpppp sound when shifting under boost.

Yes, but here is my point, are they equipped with manual clutches in the game or double clutches - how can we know? Golf GTI, Scirocco R and Golf R are all premium cars, and if we buy the twin plate clutch, we'll know they have a double clutch, but if we don't, they could just be manual couldn't they?

There is no need to add any parts to replicate a DCT, because I believe PD has simulated it fairly accurate already.
Adding the twin plate clutch may help it shift faster but there is no reason it is necessary in the first place.
Twin plate clutches are for manual cars where the stock clutch can be replaced with a twin to improve engine response and torque capacity.
While on the other hand, a DCT uses two individual multi plate clutches that is different from what is normally used in manual transmission.

PD has modelled normal manual transmissions on many DSG and automatic cars.

Yes, I think I might have to be clearer here, as no one's really getting it.

Golf R can be A. Manual or B. DSG - How do I know when I select manual whether or not the car will respond like A or B? Shouldn't PD replicate both? Or, have they chosen to just do manual and automatic, so DSG isn't represented. Or, have they chosen for cars like the Golf R to have DSG only, and manual mode is like tip-tronic mode and auto is like D mode? Is there anyway to know?

It's also worth remembering that the Golf and Scirocco in GT5 are the Japanese market versions, which are detuned.

Not really, cockpit mode may show you the answer by watching the driver inside. I think that PD go with the highest end and of a car, but they may also just do a generalized DSG for cars that have it to save time. Same goes with a manual gearbox. As far as automatic goes, it is just either DSG or Manual without you shifting and the game doing the work for you. If PD were to model each one individually it would cut into other parts of time needed on the game.

This shouldn't be too big of a problem with Premium cars, given that you can see the driver's arms move. The thing is that for some strange reason, PD let us change gears manually even if the car is a fully automatic, which is pretty stupid IMO.

With Standard cars, you'll have a much harder time trying to figure out what transmission they have.

You pretty much solved your own problem, look at the drivers arms. If he's moving them during shift, its manual, if not, its auto.

I noticed a few cars, like the samba bus, that are auto. I agree that its weird to be able to shift though, even though his hands don't move.

If he's not moving them with newer cars it is due to paddle shifting.

Again, with Standard cars, chances are you won't be able to see the driver's arms move.

Not always. Many paddles are mounted on the steering column, where the wiper stalks and indicator stalks are found. These paddles are fixed, and don't follow the movement of the steering wheel. From experience, this configuration is used mostly in DSG cars. You will be able to see the driver's hands move.

Yes I know, bloody daft of them I thought, very idiotic, but its a 99.99% facsimile of the real thing, so I still bought it, with some minor tuning you 'should' be able to have basically the real thing - however I do keep asking Kaz to 'patch' it, not that he ever will, damn those missing 12KW/16BHP!.. On the other hand its nice to have it RHD, for me that's the silver lining.

Yes, but we can also put traction control, stability control, and abs on any car, even before the technology was invented - its kind of like being able to modernise the cars, a bit.

Hmm, but what about the fingers? If they did model a true DSG for the cars with DSG options (since they are claimed to be faster), surely you'd see him change in the manual mode when you changed, and in auto mode, no change would be observed.

Not really, cockpit mode may show you the answer by watching the driver inside.

I shall have to investigate and report back, further more, if I zoom in the most, I might be able to see the inids of the dash. I'm hopeful yet doubtful that I'll see the fingers move though.

At the end of the day, its all about how fast these cars are in the game, to how fast they are in real life, and knowing what these cars have in terms of componentry, from clues like moving in the cockpit, should give us our answer (would be pretty sneaky of them to have his arm move downward, but its actually in 'S' mode, so he's still changing manually in DSG, but it could fool us into thinking its a manual).

I see the fingers move when I do cockpit racing. I do alot of it, and it is easier to pick up with certain cars it seems more than others. Try the GT-R since it runs a DSG system as well. That's the best I can give you, sorry if you were looking for more.

@Penguin
In my experience I can see the finger movements because I made it a habit of mine to see if PD got it right. This is due to me being highly critical of them and other sim race game makers. Also I realize the techincal jargon, I wasn't refering to DSG in that last comment because I didn't think the other user was talking about it. I do realize that they are fixed and the semi-auto paddles move with the wheel. Thanks though either way.

The Golf and Scirocco in the game are definitely modeled from the DSG version.

If you look carefully at the bottom of the center display.
It says P R N D S with N highlighted.

On the Golf and Scirocco it will say 1 2 3 4 5 6 there because the DSG is in Manual mode.

Wow great job, so this goes to show that GT does have the high-end models with DSG. Those that can come with it only have DSG version, but I think Conza is on to something and maybe it would be a good idea to have a selection. The only issue I see is the time put in to differentiate between the two.
