well i played online yesterday , and to be honest i wasn't overly impressed , everything was fine from my perspective within the car , but the other opponents cars in front of me where jerking and stuttering around corners , as though the corners were 50 pence piece shaped , just did not make for an immersive enjoyable experience , is anyone else experiencing this ?
i hope it improves , until it does , i'm back online with shift . 👍

I played online, admittedly only point to point events but the other ghosts were silky smooth and I'm not on a terribly great connection. No problems to report here, sounds like you had a bad host or bad connection yourself.

It's not a glitch in the game. It's lag from the other players' connections.

It's only really a problem in Landrush, Rallycross and the party mode games, when the contestants are solid and you can make contact with them. I had one guy jumping around in front of me in Landrush today, and he kept smashing into me unintentionally.

You have to wonder why people play online when they have such poor connections because it would be impossible to drive in extreme cases.

Yeah no such lag issues here, it looked pretty smooth, only saw one guy jump a bit on me last night. Online was a good time, I kinda like the way they set it up.

It's not them having bad connection on their own, it's bad connection with you. I had my share of this kind of thing when I played Burnout Paradise and Hot Pursuit 3...What you see is recorded input being translated into a moving vehicle.. On that person's screen they're driving normally, while you may see other things on your screen... thus cars making contact in online games just aren't worth the trouble for me... thus why I'm always finding myself sticking to individual games like rally and trailblazer.

Yeah, I find I'm shying away from Landrush and Rallycross. Unless you manage to get on the front row, you're screwed. As soon as you try to pass someone, they ram you.

I tried one Landrush race online hoping to avoid any accidents. Unsurprisingly, I was hit at least 6 times before the end of the first lap. Next I tried Rallycross which wasn't as bad because I managed to finish 2nd, even though I was repeatedly rammed by one racer in particular.

I definitely prefer the Point to Point races, they're so much more enjoyable in my opinion.

In Hot Pursuit Races, there's always a cluster of cars playing bumper cars... Fortunately, because we have nitrous, I overtake most of them by the first 2 corners, boost and never see them again.

Unfortunately, that can't be done as easily in this game as you can get P.I.T'd by others.

Best thing to do I suppose to to let the herd take the corner first into the wall while you cruise by unscathed :)

This is how I've always planned 'full contact' races ever since DiRT 2. Sometimes it works, but more often I find that those who have crashed on the first corner seem to try and take out as many other players as possible by obstructing the track. This is why I think starting first on the grid is the best thing to hope for as you have clear track infront of you, or you could take an extremely cautious approach at the beginning of the race by holding back until every other car has made it through the first turn, then try passing them afterwards.

Yeah I personally plan to just stick to the point to point. Unfortunately I didnt even get a chance to do point-to-point yet!

unfortunately I did a Rallycross event and got rammed over & over. :grumpy:

I was in the back tho like interludes points out. I'm not very good with online racing atm. Anyway, I think point-to-point races will be great for me because I don't want to get rammed by other noobs. Cant wait to play tonight I hope I get time. Last night I had to rush out to go watch x-men with some buddies.

Can you only race with friends on the ps3? There's nobody in the lobby when I go online. (used to play online with pc)

Check your NAT type, that might be causing the problems. You can race anyone online via matchmaking with Pro Tour, and if that's always empty and stays empty there's a problem your end.

It says NAT type 3 in network settings. Other games like BC or Killzone work fine online.

3 is the worst it can be, so there's your problem. I'm not an expert on fixing it though, so you'll have to seek help elsewhere, you want Type 1 preferably 2. Some games will work fine, others will have problems but you'll almost always eventually hit problems with Type 3.

Well, the thing is, you've got to be aggressive in Rallycross and Landrush in the Dirt Tour and single-player modes. So people take that as a licence to ram.

Got it on 2 now with a wireless conn, works now online. Guess I have to set ip the router and open up some ports.

Thx for the info anyway, got me in the right direction.

Well looks like Leader Boards are ALREADY had by cheaters. Was wanting to do some TTs for RallyXcross and the WR ghost wallrides the inside of a barricade on a hairpin which is technically outside of the track. Just doesn't end.

Argh, just had a very frustrating session online. There's a group of German guys who are really, really good. I don't mind racing someone who is a little quicker than me because it's satisfying to beat them, but there is a point where it stops being challenging and just becomes frustrating. Being a second or two quicker is fine; being eight seconds faster isn't. The game really should try and put you with players of a similar ability level. I'm at Fanbase lvl. 28 right now, so I'm happy to race anyone between 25 and 30 ... but not people in the 40s.

Just finished the last season and went online for the first time.... The competition is awful....

In a first rallycross at Aspen, one guy nicked my rear end and caused me to spin out. As I fix the car in the right direction another car collides into me causing me to tumble. After all that I drove like I normally do, caught up to the guy who spun me out, and overtook him by the 2nd lap, won by well over 10 seconds...

Next round @ L.A Coliseum. I got involved in a giant Osiris Lancer Pile up right at the first hairpin. After breaking away, as I exited the stadium, 1st place had spun out, I saw it late, but I was definitely going to hit him so I slammed the brakes.. Turns out he whipped out flashback so I stopped for nothing. Some other lancer overtook me at this point. Spent the entire race catching up to this guy who now had a 5 second lead. By the end of the race, I closed to gap to 1.4 seconds.

Host changes to Trailblazer (2 rounds).. won both easily...

Then I thought, well these guys got a small fanbase, so maybe they aren't experienced enough yet. Therefore I found a room of 2; one with a fanbase of 26 and the other, 15.

We played Head 2 Head on Aspen, won by well over 8 seconds. They were shocked base on their reaction on mic. Host changes to Gymkhana...he wins by about 40,000 points. In the next round, I win by over 90,000.

Lol, that's why I mostly play Pro-tour (Point-to-point), atleast you get somewhat of a competition, and you can't collied with others. But I'm already level 26 beacuse people are just REALLY easy to beat. :\

Cat and mouse is one of the best modes I have played in a game for a long time, so much fun!

Urgkh. I just got accused of cheating because I was lagging in a game of Transporter. What do they think happens, I jump out of the way just as they make a run as me for the flag? No, I think the more likely cause is the fact that I know my way around the Compound, and used that knowledge to beat them - and the fact that they're not top dog doesn't sit well with them.

They're just salty. if anyone calls you out because they couldn't accept a loss... your automated response should be: "U Mad?"

Most of your earlier post AOS is exactly why I host 90% of the time outside of point to point, and the other 10% I have a friend hosting . It's one of those games which attracts alot of dirty drivers and such, so the easy way to deal with any shenanigans is to kick them. You can always use GTP as a means to get a couple of players in early by simply making a post in the main thread or otherwise to get a head start on numbers 👍.

Dirty players don't bug me in races. They can't corner for beans so I always overtake them at those points. I'll find better players here after I start up a competition.

But regarding Pro-Tour, I'll probably start hitting that up when I fiinsh all the World Tours..

I know there must be faster players out there, because in time trial, i never post top times. However, online is a joke most of the time... people drive pretty terrible. I usually finish first... on trailblazer events, if it's really bad, i manage to finish with a 20+ second lead sometimes...
