Yeah, I thought it was an April Fool too, until I saw that they've added trading cards... Now that I can 100% the game I think I'll install it again, I always wanted to get some of the DLC but the GFWL prices were crazy. Like, console-grade crazy!

I honestly didn't expect Codemasters to come through on this, I had assumed they'd announce that they'd changed their minds and that we should just buy their next game instead. Nice to be wrong, Dirt 3 is actually quite a nice game as long as you don't expect any proper rallying. Gymkhana can suck an egg, though.

Thank goodness! GFWL is the biggest pain ever. Great that they finally got rid of it, and cool that they gave us the complete edition.

I got my free switch over to the Steamworks-based complete edition, installed yesterday. VERY happy, I can finally get stuck into DiRT 3 again :)

(I checked, they first tweeted the switch from GFWL to Steamworks on 8 November 2013)

i just reinstalled since i got upgrade to Complete edition for free :) maaan the force feedback feels weird with this CSW v2 in this game, like some of the forces are the reverse of what they should be. anyone else getting this? i dont remember this issue with my porsche gt2 wheel.

Not your wheel, codemasters have broken the force feedback in the game. They are asking people to supply their PC specs. Even though they put out a statement saying this only happens to logitech wheels, it happens no matter the manufacture. There is no work around at the moment either, so until Codies fix it; we are pretty much stuck unless we play with a control pad.

It was working fine in the original DiRT 3 PC version, but in the new Complete edition the T300 is broken too (I can map steering axis but the FFB seems to be confused and only wants me to turn right).

Ah well, waited a year and a half, another few months for a fix won't hurt too much....

Does enabling Vsync make any difference to the FFB issues? That's how I fixed an inverted feeling/right pull in F1 2011 with my G27.

that is what happens with all wheels, if you open up another racing game on PC the wheel and FFB will work as it should.

There is no known workaround at this time, but the community is trying to find a temporary fix. As it is at the moment, we are stuck waiting for codemasters to fix what they themselves have broken.

Well, I had a browse of the Steam forum on day one of the Steamworks version's release and found one user posting the Vsync fix everywhere, one other person who thanked them for posting it because it... Um... I can't remember if it fixed it or just made it playable. No one else acknowledged the posts or said that they enabled Vsync. Have you tried it?

V-Sync was the first thing I tried, doesn't work. Again, codemasters have broken the FFB in Dirt 3; a game that has always had good FFB with or without V-sync enabled. I can load up the ol games for windows live version, and the FFB works as it should.

lol well this is a bummer. i was excited to get this game set up to work with my DK2

Started playing it again, I forgot about how much they love sucking Ken Block's **** in this game. Plus the dudebro commentator gets so annoying I have to take my headphones off everytime he speaks. Apart from that it's a great game, sucks to hear about the FFB bug though :/

Yeah, the talking irks me so much it moved me to upload this demonstration because non-racing gamer friends of mine don't understand what keeps getting me so worked up:

Codemasters' racing games since at least Grid/Dirt 2 are the poster children for wholly unnecessary, unskippable, patronising, cringeworthy voiceovers and videos. I was playing Dirt 3 earlier on and I can't remember what they said exactly, but it was along the lines of "Wow, you won the race! Keep winning more races to unlock more races to win!". That other guy who explains how different racing disciplines work, too: "Drive this particular type of car from the start to the finish in the shortest time to win the race!" or "Drive this other type of car, overtake everyone else and finish the race first to win!".

No wonder Codemasters are in financial trouble, they keep spending money on useless voice actors. It's a racing game, for crying out loud, I don't think anyone needs to be told how they work.

Wait they're actually in financial trouble? The voice actors didn't bother me much at all. Sometimes they did go on too long, but think they could have kept the girl would have been fine I liked her voice.

Seems that way. This isn't the only thing I've read about it, it's just the first thing I saw on Google.

All that confirms to me is some things I knew all along that the corporate greed is taking hold on the gaming industry I saw this all throughout PS3 era at least later on by the time COD starting making people believe annual release was the way to go with every game.

Still this is why I haven't invested in PS4/X1 yet as I have the sinking feeling a lot of companies going to start buckling from basically being stupid.

I think this goes hand in hand with two "new" trends:
1. Kickstarter
2. Mobile gaming explosion

More than ever there are ways to create games without signing on with a big developer/publisher.

But anyway, the games industry has been worth more than the movie industry for a while now, so obviously that is having an effect.

Won DiRT 3 on AMD Gaming Evolved and got the Complete Edition too. Enjoying it.

Monte-Carlo rally stages look beautiful, but they're kinda monotonous because made of few parts in various combinations and directions. Drive on another stage but think "I've been there already!". However, so many other locations are.

Physics - well, it's fun to tackle tough corners on high speeds like this (particularly the narrow mountain passes of Monte-Carlo), but meanwhile, you understand that you most likely could not do it so well in real life. No need to expect this to be a simulator, of course...

Since they fixed GFWL and gave us the complete game (nice) I've gotten back into it somewhat and finally made it past the Gymkhana tutorials I hated so much last time. They havn't fixed the dudebro commentator though. At least I can turn the obnoxious music off.

The rally sections are still enjoyable and what there is of it is very good, its just that it tries to cover every base, instead of concentrating on a single focus they just give tasters of lots of different styles without giving enough to be satisfying. So not enough content for what you do get. Shame really because there is is done very well indeed.

So very true! I've had Dirt 2 for ages for the PS3 and played it briefly back when I first got it. Couldn't stand the obnoxious layer of X games hogwash pasted over everything! I honestly HATE the way these games (and most other racing games nowadays actually - the NFS games for example) are designed. The "story mode" they try and shoehorn into the mix just drives me bonkers. Even the fact that I have to unlock everything to get to use it seems to me to be a totally unnecessary thing. Look, just give me the content and let me determine what I want to do with it! I don't buy a racing game so that I can sit there and "enjoy" an awesome 3D menu system for 20% of the time I spend with the game. Dirt 2 is actually a fun game (well the actual racing/driving part of it that is) but it's so hard to enjoy because of all the excess baggage.

Just picked up Dirt 3 yesterday and was pleased to find they had at least gone with a less over-bearing menu system.
