So picked up Dirt 3 for a relatively cheap price on steam £9.99.
Always had fun with rally games and my DFGT, but this was the first on a PC game. I quickly was introduced into the overly complicated 'install X driver' 'download logitech profiler' and then take on the job of a data engineer to somehow code in the right preferences to settings I had no clue on. Oh how I miss the PS3's plug in and play style (obviously with the in game simple customization).
Anyway, I have a few questions about dirt 3:
1) Having lots of fun, and its hard... top difficulty, no aids at all.. and wow those rallies are tough. New games dont usually challenge me this much. Yet to win a rally (on level 6, maxed AI diff) instead I got a bunch of second places and a third place. Is this a genuinely hard game or do I just need to get into it? Only played for a day
2) Obviously these are not F1 cars. So what degrees of rotation do you use? I suspect in real life its ~300 degrees, but I do not want to turn more than a quarter of the wheel, so I use ~190 for a very sensitive car. Is this a good idea? what do you guys use? As I said, inexperienced with rallying and wheel settings on PC
Overall having a blast. On toughest difficulty, flying through Finland, eyes on fire, super levels of concentration, putting faith in co-driver and fighting for splits of 0.1s... In a way, having not won a full rally (won a stage) is making the game way better than, say, F1:2013 where I can win the world championship, no aids, max diff, in a Torro Rosso with ease.
I've won the non-rally events. Not sure what you call them, rally cross or something - they seem a bit more arcadey and not as fun as the rallying. I hope the series direction will head more towards the rally. Something I loved in the old Mcrae titles was those races where your opponent would start on the opposite side of the track and you'd race round back to the start. Whats that called and is it in the game? Thanks
Regards, the 0zz.
