Who needs a xbox? I gotta PS3!
I downloaded the DiRT demo from the Playstation store when it came out Thursday.
I had some time today so I thought I play DiRT for a half hour or so, 3 hours later I'm digging it!
It plays in 720p & looks great.
There are 3 cars & 1 track per car (off road, rally stage & closed course) with no online or multiplayer support for the demo but both are supposed to be in the full game along with 1080p.
It does support my DFP steering wheel but I had to turn the steering sensitivity way down to like 50% because a small input at the wheel was a big input at the tires & I was getting massive tank slappers by over correcting.

I did pretty good on the closed course with the WRX & I'm close to the record on the Buggy on the off road track but I suck on the rally stage, although I did have some very cool crashes!

From what some were saying I was expecting this to be more of an arcade game like Motorstorm but I found it to be much more sim like than Motorstorm & I like that!
Motorstorm is fun in an over the top 1000' high jumps & all but I like Dirt better.
I'm hoping they have a Home interface like GT5 will have where you can screen who you are going to race with.
I am so sick of the screaming foul mouthed 12 year olds on Motorstorm that I don't even use my headset there anymore!

I like the menus & I really like the loading screens (when did you ever heard someone say that!) instead of just the little clock showing you how long you have to wait it shows you your stats while you wait.

This looks like a buy for me.

The overall design of DiRT is like a sim (unlike motorstorm) but the handling itself is just too arcadey. It's like it just rotates on a centre axis and you hardly ever need to touch the brake and when you do it almost comes to a complete stop instantly.

Though after saying that, it is a fun game and I will probably buy it.

Any initial differences between the PS3 and 360 version, in terms of graphics, playablility etc etc...?

I don't have the 360 version, but according to some GTP members, the PS3 version has better lighting and frame rate.

I felt the need to apologise to the C4 Concept I drove first.

In the end it resembled an Ariel Atom.

But it was a lot of fun.

My friend has this game for the 360 and i thought it was fun, but after playing the PS3 demo, i personally like it more on the PS3. I absolutely love the replays... i would agree on the better lighting and framerate on the PS3 version for sure.

Yep, having played the demos on the 360 and PS3 the PS3 one is superior. Lighting and framerate are definitely better.

It's just too arcady for my liking, so I'll give it a pass...

I liked the demo. It does has more content than Motor storm but Motor storm is fun in its own right. I'm going to buy Dirt when it releases next month but wheel support is not good at all. I was hoping it was more like Racer Drivers' wheel support where you can set the steering ration anyway you wanted. you are stuck with 200 degree mode.

Too bad there is no save in the demo, I have to start over each time.

I would like to know how my stats stack up against some of you.
My longest jump is 206.8, the fastest speed was 112.40 & the longest slide was 175.60' all in the buggy.

Am I right in thinking this is the first PS3 game that you don't need the PS button to exit or is it just the first of the games I have to do that?

I have to say, I'm impressed by the demo - I had a quick go on it late last night.

The menu screens are very stylish and different. The graphics generally are very impressive, and the choice of driver views you get is very good. I particularly like the slo-mo button on the replays, so you can watch your crashes in all their glory. The damage is also well done, I'd be happy to see the same level of damage (both cosmetic and otherwise) in GT, but I'm not holding my breath.

Not sure if I'm going to buy it, though... since I already have MotorStorm, and GT5 is on the way... but as a rallying sim, it's far better than Gran Turismo. Unfortunately, the competition for my computer-game-buying money is pretty intense right now, and I'm not sure I can justify buying another racing game...

Look what I can do with Dirt demo:sly:

I think its rad! Have any of you guys used the right thumbstick to look around? If you look down at your feet, you can see your right foot workin the gas and switchin back and forth between the gas and brake too! I spent some time screwin around with the buggy while i was talkin with my girlfriend and here are some of my stats!

Fastest lap: 1:02:86
Longest jump: 238.41'
Longest Slide: 159.80'
Longest Distance on 2 wheels: 84.64'

this game is fun just to screw around too! Fun to push the cement blocks around and make barriers in the middle of the track and see the other cars tag em! im thinking about buying this game but i gotta save my money for COD4 and Assassins Creed...

Yea, the first time that I hit something with the STI, I was taken aback. The crashes look very real. Not to mention, the tires on the barriers actually move. Its just a great game.

After playing this demo I am now stuck in an odd position. Judging from demos I don't know whether I would prefer DiRT or Motorstorm. Motorstorm seems like it would be pure mindless fun but DiRT looks to be a much more in-depth experience. I may have to rent the two back-to-back from Gamefly and do a side-by-side comparison.

Early judgment is that I will probably get DiRT and buy Motorstorm cheap as a used game when it comes out.

The Motor storm Demo is very very old and doesnt reflect the full game. If you thought the demo was half decent you will like the full game. That demo was originally released at TGS 06.b They are different racers so I'd get one either one enjoy then get the other down the road.

Yeah I think I will rent and then decide which I want now and which I want later for cheap.

Of course, with Gamefly I won't pay more than $30 for either, so who knows.

DiRT and MotorStorm are VERY different games. The only place where they are only marginally close is when racing the autocross courses in DiRT, but even there the differences are far greater than the similarities.

The tracks, cars, and game modes are completely different. Both are very good at what they do, so I think you'll be happy playing both on their own merrits. Also, I'm sure you can get MotorStorm off eBay for under $30 so you might not even have to wait for it to get discounted.

I started writing a review of the DiRT demo, but have been distracted by other things, but I will say I have been very pleasantly surprised by what DiRT has to offer, but there are also many things I do not like about it as well... but of course it's just a demo, so the full version may not have the same issues that the demo has.

Well, Gamefly has yet to have a Keep It price for more than $32, so with my $5 coupons I should be able to get it fairly cheap. If I time it right I'll actually have two coupons and can get it for about $20. I'll have to compare to eBay to see what's cheapest.

I'll be interested to see what you think and what you didn't like. I have a few issues, but for the most part it seemed very nice.

And I just updated my Gamefly Q to have Motorstorm next and then DiRT after that, assuming it's out by then.

DiRT Version 1 will not work with the G25's clutch or shifter; version 2 will.

Cheers,

MasterGT

The demo is fun, but I've already played half of the X360 version at my friend's house. Might be a $15 used buy later on.

Just played the demo, tracks look beautiful especially the italy track....

But, it was a tad arcadey for me...

What do you mean?

I'm currently playing the demo and wheel is support, and the clutch is recognized, although not as clutch, but I program the ebrake to it.
The shifting does not support gated shifting though.

Are there two PS3 versions for sale?

This game is great (DEMO).
I think I'm going to buy it.
I played it for 3 hours last night for the first time. I was hooked. The driving is intense, and lots of fun with the G25 wheel. The rally stage is my favorite on the Demo.
