Well they said At World's End was the last Pirates/Caribbean but now we know Depp will be doing jack Sparrow until he's 80.

This article also mentions there will be Dirt 4...

This is quite a good idea, if the article is correct. Dirt 4 will be focusing more on simulation, while Dirt Showdown will let the x-games/gymkhana-lovers have their own seperate game. So hopefully that means Dirt 4 will satisfy proper rally lovers like me. If that is correct, then Codemasters deserve a thumbs-up. 👍

They said dirt 3 was for rally enthusiasts. They lied.

Won't be touching this with a barge pole.
Won't be touching Dirt 4 until its been Played by people I trust for reviews.

Dirt 3 is the PS3's highest scoring racing game on metacritic. Hmm.

This looks so bad. Stuff Codemasters, I've bought every CM/Dirt game but this is a slap in the face. Leave Mr Kenny Block to all his over-hyping fans and let us play as real racing drivers with real skill.

Wow really? Dirt 3 was a joke IMO.

Codemasters is as big of a joke as EA is as well. They sell something as being a sim but in all honesty, I find that their games are far from sim like.
The last good Codemasters game was in my opinion Toca Race Driver 3, even though far from perfect but a good sim at the time.
The last EA game I had fun with that was sim like was NFS Porsche Unleashed. After that I would only play the games with a keyboard. lol

Codemasters has sold out big time in recent years, Dirt has progressively gotten worse and worse and their F1 titles have been lousy (especially compared to Studio Liverpool's effort). They are literally going the way EA keeps going with Need for Speed (excluding Hot Pursuit which was really good).

In theory yes this would be a good idea. My fear is that if showdown doesn't sell well ,dont think it will, then they might scrap their rally game.

You know what the problem is of those huge publishers? They want to please too many kinds people with one game, with the result being them making a game that doesn't appeal to anyone at all because the overall balance of the game is crap.
If you want to make an arcade game, make a pure arcade game. Don't throw anything in there that might resemble simulation. Also if you want to make a simulation game don't throw arcade modes in the game as we don't want them. And so on and so forth. Making genres grey areas is the worst mistake they make every time.

I actually preferred The Run to Hot Pursuit weirdly enough.

You know what the trailer reminds me of?

That's one opinion. I'll give you another. I actually love their F1 games and I think Studio liverpools was an absolute joke.

The problem is that the dirt series has sold well. I didn't buy Dirt 2 or 3, but others did, so obviously some like them.

I saw the trailer of this Dirt LoLdown,

Ok, Introducing a brand new company
Ladies and Gentlemen... The CodeCrapmasters!

OMG. :odd::scared::indiff:

After that, I think I'm not going to buy any other "rally" game from Codemasters. Their games are too arcade for me.

Modern games seem to be aimed at thickos who enjoy pressing one button, then sitting there grinning like an idiot while the game practically plays itself.

I love how people are not reading this properly.

It's a mix that boldly differentiates itself from the main Dirt series (which will make a return with a renewed focus on simulation in Dirt 4)

Or did everyone "miss" that bit?

Now now, lets not let facts get in the way of an anti-Codemasters rant.

As I said earlier, I think it's a good idea. Codemasters will satisfy the arcade fans with Dirt Showdown and they'll be able to (hopefully) satisfy the proper rally fans with Dirt 4.

Sorry, I didnt see your post at the top there! You and I seem to be the only ones who read it and think of this as a good idea.

Yes I did read it properly but believe it or not that whole simulation Dirt 4 crap was also said about Dirt 3, or did you "miss" that statement from them before Dirt 3's release?

It's because they're funded by people who have no interest in gaming. And indie developers who are gamers can't afford to make the game we all want to play.

Gota go with this myself, a lot was made of DIRT 3 going back to the rally routes and it was mainly about gymkhana with a few 2/3 minute rally stages.
And although i don't wana turn this into a codemasters bashing, their support of their f1 game was awful, i've lost a lot of faith in codemasters this gen, and the only game i really enjoyed from them was GRID but still there's no sequel in sight :grumpy:

Hopefully DIRT 4 will be the sim most of us hope for but seeing as this is being released first i guess we'll have to wait a long time to find out.

Well, if you remove the need for licensing and laser scanning. I am sure we can produce a really nice game if we'd start an open-source project. ;)
Also if you want scanned tracks or 100% accurate branded cars you could ask for a donation from the community.
Sure, it won't be super game at first but it'll improve with effort. After all when there is a will there is a way as well.

Oh and about Dirt 4 and that new approach to simulation. It's what they said with Dirt 3 as well... *yawn*

I have bought every dirt game and must say that dirt 1 was by far the best and most fun.
The dirt games got worse as they went and I don't see dirt 4 being any different. If they want a rally sim drop the dirt name as every kid out there knows that dirt stands for fun kid arcade game and that's the crowd it will attract and that's the crowed that the game is going to cater to.

So again the only way you can really hope that they will make a rally sim is if the change the name.

Totally agree with you, man.

With Dirt 3, their big thing was a bigger part for rallying in the game. They were correct, it featured more heavily than it did in Dirt 2, I struggle to find these statements where they said it was a "new approach to simulation", I dont recall them ever saying that about Dirt 3.

Codemasters publish their own games.

Very true. Never understood why developers are scared of simulation/challenging games. Look at the sales of gt5 and forza compared to the arcade racers out there. Developers don't understand we like a challenge thats what gaming is partially about.

Plus look at the life span of a simulation game compared to an arcade game. I only play the dirt series for about a month after I buy them but still play GT5 a year after its release. Im therfore more likely to buy the next GT and any dlc compared to the dirt series (didn't buy any for dirt 3, and bought the games when they were reduced in price).

That's one opinion. I'll give you another. I actually love their F1 games and I think Studio liverpools was an absolute joke.

It did sell well, but sales were dropping with each release though. Which is why they tried to introduce new ideas.

Were never going to get an simulation game from them. I would be happy with dirt 1 tracks and dirt 3 handling. I can only hope C.A.R.S will replace RBR.
