For about 3 months my Ps2 would only play professionaly resurfaced discs. I went to this website and found out some information. My laser had to be cleaned, and voltage re-adjusted to play all games again.

Yup, my first PS2, I got it when they first came out, I left it on so much (letting my meter go up in TXR0) that the laser burnt out. They said it was going to cost just as much to replace it as it would to buy a new one, so I busted my old one (threw it off a bridge, then went down and beat it :P) and bought...or...got bought...a new one. Stupid expensive lasers! :irked:

yeah, with a leanse cleaner disk? or was it just over worked?

My laser was burnt out. Like, it wouldn't turn on to read the discs. The only way to fix it is to buy a new one, which costs as much as a new PS2.

My PS2 works but it always goes to the menu screen before the disk reads. Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix it?

yeah, laser cleaners never worked with me, and as for the reset problem, it could be the same problem i had, send me the details of the problem

The Sony Store has a really good warranty for about $40.
It covers everything for 2 years. If anything goes wrong, it gets replaced for free.

I found this out when I bought my PS2.

Before the warranty was up, all I did was bash on the top of it until it wouldn't work, then took it back to the Sony Store and said, "this thing is screwed and it's still under warranty". I showed them the reciept and they grabbed a new PS2 out of their cabinet and went, "here ya go".

Brand new PS2 for $40.

My friend's PS2 screwed up but he didn't have a warranty on it, so I told him to call the same place and see what they say. So he did and ended up giving it to them so they could send it back to Sony and replace the entire internals with new stuff. It cost him something like 90 bucks. Canadian dollars btw.

Contact Sony. I have an original PS2 and it stopped reading all discs last month. I called the service department, sent it in, they fixed it for FREE, and it took a total of 19 days from me shipping it to getting it back and playing again. I did not buy any additional warranties and I have no mods done to my console. Sony customer support is really nice IMO. Hope this helps.

they fixed my lazer for free once took four days from shipping to reciving it back fixed happened again and they gave me a new PS2 cuz they didnt have the parts to fix it.

hahaha

ok I got a SERIOUS problem,

when I start my ps2, it does a clicking noise, and it doesnt the cd, it says it trying to read but it doesn't achieve to.

I know the clicking noise is coming from the laser going up and down streaming for data, I don't wanna know the cause or the problem, just the SOLUTION.

I went at my local sony shop and the guy only said, Give me 120$(canadian) and I'll send it to Toronto.

Damm sony

Yep, it should. I did the same. It only cost me shipping the unit to Sony. Their number is 1-800-345-SONY. One more number to try is 1-800-222-SONY. Or, 1-800-488-SONY.

Before my PS2 failed, it scratched my game all to hell. They mailed me a check for $57 bucks.

I had always assumed that my PS2 (mine since its launch) was a lost cause. I'll contact them and see what they can do.

The big problem is that stories of Sony helping PS2 customers has always been varied. I've read a good split between happy customers who have had their units repaired and unhappy ones who had to pay an arm and a leg for their fixes.
