Well... I guess I shouldn't have expected much from Enchanted... it's a Disney movie, right? But it had such terrific good points that the bad points left quite a sour taste... hell, my wife wouldn't stop bashing it on the way out... which killed whatever was left of the feel-good buzz after the movie.
First off, the animated portion was well-produced, with e pre-requisite self-consciously corny song numbers, twittering birds, and such... but there's a modern-day Looney Tunes irony in the form of the character Pip, and the overall tone comes off as a bit rushed, even if it felt too long in some parts.
The rest of the movie is a mixture of awkward fish-out-of-water humor and some really nifty comedic dialogue... soaring song numbers (the Central Park number was awesome) and good old-fashioned slapstick.
Amy Adams is w.o.n.d.e.r.f.u.l. She makes the character completely believable, and she's so cute and bubbly, it carries most of the film.
Unfortunately, this being a Disney movie, they couldn't keep the high forever... by the last few scenes you know what's going to happen, who's going to end up with who, and all you're waiting for is the stroke of midnight. The ending feels like it was rushed through production and typed up by 13 year old interns (it's so "High School Musical", it's not funny), with a slapped-on CGI dragon to fight (Stardust's final confrontation was more believable...) and it wraps up the movie so badly that it feels forced... c'mon, this is a fairytale, and yes it should have a happy ending, but please, make it a believable one?
Overall, it's a wonderful fantasy world, with very human and very believable and likeable characters... unfortunately, the script does its best to kill the magic.
Beginning of the Movie: 7/10.
Middle: 9/10 (Singing roaches, huge production number, etcetera... fun!)
End of the Movie: 6/10
