I bought my first copy of GT4 a couple weeks after the game was relesed and it work fine for about 2 years and in about a months span went from perfect to red swerly to 'I'm not working anymore'. It was probley do to scrachs. So I got my second copy for my B-day last year and and it went caput in about 6 months. (it didn't have hardly any scrachs.) So I bought my 3rd copy about a month and a half ago and it never worked:indiff:. So I have Finaly broke under the want to play it and posted this. I haven't been abell to find anything on how to fix it. Number one will probley never be played again. Number 2 and 3 are differant. When the PS2 is off I can put them in and turn on the ps2 and alls it does is make a soft consistate clicking sound and it dose not even go to the browser screen. And when the ps2 is on and I put it in it dosen't even say 'Reading disc'. I have tryed cleaning the lens and disc, but no dice.

Any help is apperciated, for I despratly want to play this game and not GT3 anymore!:indiff: Thanks for reading and putting up with my pathatic spelling abilites.

First off, never touch the lens, it might become misaligned, quite possibly ending the life of the disc. Do you have any other games to play? Does this same thing happen to them as well? Also, did you check the forums for any threads like this?

By cleaning the lens, I blew on it. I probely shoudn't have used the term 'cleaning'. All of my other games work fine, even a six year old GT3 and a very smuged and dirty Test Drive Unlimited.

Hmm, well when mine wasn't working I took it out and put it on my shirt and spun the disc on my shirt until it looked clean and the scratches were gone. I do not know if that would help in your case, but it sure did in mine. I'd suggest searching through the forums and see what you get though, I'm sure someone had the same problem as you in the past.

The issue is the PS2 itself not liking dual-layer DVDs. You might be able to use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol on the lens and get it to function properly again, but I don't know.

Here's a good link to help you T-square, and this is just one of many threads that have been created on this topic.

And just to possibly save you some time, T-square, what solved my problem was when I begrudgingly went back to the gaming store and bought a new copy of GT4. The previous one I bought had been a used copy.

GT4 is created on a dual-layer DVD which is more complex than some other games. This is why some of your games still play, but your copy of GT4 will not.

When my GT4 disk started to constantly show me the red circle of death, it turned out it was my PS2's laser and not the scratches on the disk, since a slim PS2 could play it with ease.

You could try and keep cleaning the laser, repeatedly opening up and closing the PS2, but sooner or later it'll just stop working and you may just need a new PS2. :indiff:

I'm still on my 1st GT4 disk. Bought on the day of release so it's about 4 years old plus a few months. ;)

Great, now I have 3 Gran Turismos 4 that work!:dopey::dopey::dopey: Thank You very very much! I'm playin GT4 for the first time in a half year tonight!!!:dopey::dopey::dopey:

Ok first off I think you spelled abilities wrong and I'd say your ps2 is the problem.

If you have done all those things and it's still not working I'd say go out and buy another ps2. I am not affiliated with sony in any way.

gt addict, read the thread. T-Squared just replied that all his copies of the game work now. That is redundant and now useless advice.

...unless he aimed it at me in which case that's exactly what I went and did a few months ago now. ;)

Oops! :dunce::dunce: I need to follow my own advice. That was stupid... sorry for my attitude, gt addict.

So I am not the only one experiencing this problem. I had my lens cleaned by a shop and it is still not working. Plays all single layer discs fine but dual layered discs are a problem.

funnily enough this happenned when i was playing on a slimline ps2, so after buying 4 copies of the game, i bought an oldskool ps2, now it works pretty good.

Definately glad to hear that i'm not alone. Anyways, does anybody know if Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is a multi-layer disk as well? Just wondering because my PS2(fatty) won't play either GT4 or MC3, and both stopped working at the same time.
