My machine doesn't seem to recognize the disk anymore. All the downloaded programs and stored results are there but no GT5. I tried another disk and no dice there either. Haven't used the system lately but is was fine the last time I used it.

Anybody run into this before.

Thanks in advance
Jack

Well how old is your system? FAT OR SLIM MODEL?

Your blue ray drive is dead
if you have a BC PS3 that will set you back 80USD
if its a slim its 70USD now installation will be 80-120$
I would know since mine died October of last year and buying a 80$ drive and paying 15$ shipping and installing seamed dumb so i researched local game shops and eventually found one and i got it done for 100$ =) make sure you watch tho they sometimes take parts out.. all they should touch is the big grey box * blue ray drive.* if there taking the whole thing apart there doing it wrong*
*EDIT*what seems strange is it just died, mine had symptoms a full 2 months and a half before , kilzone's voices would be of sinc, and the last level would never work , it then got to the point were cars wouldn't pop up in the UCD when i would click them to view them then the music would pop out and after that the game wouldn't load , then it wouldn't get passed the loading screen and then i got to your point, no disk. Mabby it has dust in it?

Well it may not be dead... It might need to be cleaned... Which i have done to a few systems i have worked on for a few friends.... The ones that they had were 6 fat models and 2 slims... Their PS3 wasn't reading the discs so they brought them over to me... 15 mins later for the fat models i got them back working... It took me about 20-25mins for the slim (I'm quicker at taking the fat model PS3s apart).. But it is really simple to do... All you need to do is tell me if your PS3 is a fat or slim model and how long you have had it... And i highly advise this before you think about paying money for anything

I need to clean my laser about 3-4 times a year. It gets dusty and i smoke.. My fat and my new slim both have not read discs a few times.

Go on YouTube find a good disassembly video, get the cover off the disc drive, take off the circular disc centering magnet, you can see the laser in there. Clean with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. Don't soak it tho. Then another q-tip to dry and buff. Should work well.

If it is the laser it's an easy swap also. Maybe $40 dollars on eBay.
