Dislocated Arm

Well yesterday i think i dislocated my arm. I was at my friend's band's show and we were moshing. When i hit someone my arm popped at the shoulder. I got out of the pit and i told my other friend what had happened. He pushed my arm up, then it popped a little and it was fine at the time. I woke up this morning and my arm hurts at the shoulder. What should i do?

Don't worry dude, it happens to me ALOT! It will hurt for awhile, but it won't get blue or puffy or anything like that. The only pain in the ass is getting it back in, but you seem to have succeded in that. If it happens again, (it problably will) just slam it against a hard surface while pushing up, you should hear a loud POP! or CRACK! to let you know it's in. 👍

...Or to let you know you broke your humerus.

Your post made all the energy drain from my shoulder...

You should keep moshing untill you break your leg or something. Hell I sprained my ankle and still went moshing when Disturbed came to Billings. You have nothing to worry about.

Better idea - don't.

Anyway, you tend to know if you've dislocated your shoulder. You don't think you might have done it. You know because it hurts like Hell's rottweiler biting into you. I had mine lovingly dislocated (momentarily - it relocated itself immediately) while playing hockey. There was no "think" about it. There's still a lot of weakness in that joint even today - and it happened 15 years ago.

Listen to Famine, he's right, don't listen to me. (you problably aren't anyway)

My arms are kinda weak in the shoulder area, maybe I should think before I do things, oh well. :nervous:

Well, it's true that a dislocated joint should be relocated as a matter of urgency, but it should be done by a medical professional. First Aid advice is "don't touch that one with a ten foot pole".

well when it happened, my arm got like paralyzed or something. i couldnt move it. all the way to my hand. then my hand started to shake, then it away then it i could move things again. but i was really scared tho, when i like reach up it hurts like a mother. but it will go away right?

I agree with him. A doctor is probably the only one who can give you the right answer, or Famine I don't think I've seen him be wrong yet.

Wait, isn't Famine part of the medical field? Or is he just some uberbeing that has the right answer for everything? :D

Did anyone else think it might be a good idea to go to the hostpital? :dunce:

Ughh, I have the same problem with my right shoulder at the most awkward times it would dislocate. For example, it has dislocated while throwing a water balloon and worst of all it has done it while I was just about falling to sleep in my bed with no one else at home. I hate it so much cause it freaks me out and it hurts like hell. The awkward part is that it'll eventually pop itself back in with some movement of my body like walking around. Its popped out about 10 times already in the past 3 years and the longest its been "out" of the socket was about half an hour and it so happens to pop itself back into spot the second I walk into the hospital with my dad...Because of this I've basically stopped using my right hand for anything straining. So far it hasn't popped in a while and I hope it won't for good. Thankfully it hasn't popped out in any of the moshes I've been in but If the arm still hurts I would go see a doctor immediately.

Oh God, your right arm got some serious issues man...

Its best if you go see a doctor.

Well it hasn't popped out in over a year now so I think its doing fine so far but the next time it does decide to pop out I'm gonna get my shoulder checked out.

The problem with dislocating a shoulder (or any joint, but shoulders seem to get t the most) is that the ligaments stretch or get torn. This means each time it disjoints, it's more likely to disjoint again in the future.

I did mine (briefly) in a motorcycle accident as a teenager, and I'll back Famine in saying it hurts like holy hell. Luckily I've never done it again.

I know someone who claims to keep dislocating his shou;der, and he just gets on of us to hit it back into place. Never thought it was a good idea so haven't done it but others have.

Same here, except try football, rugby and semi-contact karate for size.

Bit of both... :D

I've got interests in medical areas and also happen to be a qualified First Aider. Though I've not done the full 4-day course for the ultra-First-Aiders - so don't ask me to reset a bone or relocate a joint. Because I won't.

Not even if you were in the middle of nowhere with no form of communication and no hope of rescue within the next 48hrs (Due to a terrorist plot grounding all aircraft including any search craft, obviously)?
