Okay, so I finally got Gran Turismo 5 for Christmas, and I fired everything up this morning. Everything installed okay but the display is screwed up.........I can barely make out the save button while in GT Home, for example. Is there any way to fix this without having to delete my save? :odd:

I've tried everything I can think of, like searching the game for display options, and even looking on the PS3 menu.............and nothing can help me adjust the screen, it seems. Can anybody help? I don't wanna have to play with a fouled-up resolution forever............:banghead:

Firstly.. DO NOT delete your save!! this will not be the issue..

however more specific information would be helpful..

I can think of a few scenarios for example:

  • I can barely make out the save button, it's off the side of the screen!
  • I can barely make out the save button, the screens so dim!

There are display options both in the Game menu, as well as in the PS3.
screen size is adjusted when you first start the game, or from the options menu. gamma can be adjusted in game, other settings from the ps3 menu's and of course usually from your tv or monitor!!

What exactly is the problem with the save button.. or the screen resolution? and what mode is your TV displaying in? i.e. 720p 1080P 1080i, 576p do you know?

please be more specific with regard to your fouled-up resolution problem. and perhaps we can help resolve it quicker. 👍

good luck

Thanks. One issue I was having was that I could barely make out the save button in GT Home since it was almost totally off screen......and, as far as I know, it's playing in 720p.

What sort of tv are you playing it on?

Would you believe it? A 60 inch from SONY.{it's not totally mine, though, but I didn't steal it. Please don't ask me to elaborate on that.}

You should just need to resize the screen in the display settings.

It's in there somewhere.

In the game, or on the PS3 Menu?

Anyway, I appreciate you all trying to help out, but there's a good chance I won't have a chance to mess with it until early tomorrow morning, so I guess we'll have to wait until then to see if it works or not. :irked:

Check the TV options. Maybe it is set to ZOOM or maybe the picture is not set to FULL PIXEL. Or you can make the image smaller by adjusting it in GT5 options menu.

Okay, but where in the PS3{or GT} options menu? I looked everywhere this morning and couldn't find a single TV screen adjustment option. :indiff: {And I don't think it's my TV, either.}

  1. Go to Options menu.
  2. Scroll down to Hardware.
  3. Move the cursor left and choose Display Settings.
  4. Here you can set the display size.

ok...couple of things...

1. unless its an old set im assuming based on its size, the set is 1080p? If it is, make sure your PS3 is set to output 1080p (make sure EVERY resolution is checked under the PS3's display settings).

2. Once the PS3 is set to display in 1080p, your TV no longer has to scale the GT5 image up to 1080p...Now you're going to look through the TV's display menus and look for things like "aspect ratio" which should be set to 16:9...and then there should be another option for the TV's scaling. It could be called lots of different things, but the options will be like "zoom" "full pixel" "just scan" things like that. You will want to set it to "full pixel" or "just scan" whatever it is your TV uses to just display the image with no overscan...

3. Then you're going to fire up GT5 and if there are still issues with things being off the screen...go to options>hardware>display>screen size and lower the number until you can see the red flashing box on all sides of the screen..

4. If you have a DLP rear projection Sony SXRD....there could be slight issues with the location of the projection of the image on the screen. I had a SLIGHT problem with my Samsung DLP set that i never noticed until GT5, i had to use the menu to slightly move the image to the right a couple clicks and everything lined up perfectly...

It seems to be set to 480p for some strange reason.

For one, what type of TV is it? Tube? Flatscreen?

If tube...I don't really know what to say then to buy a new flatscreen.

Do you use the standard video cables that came wig the console, the component cables (you can buy them from Gamestop, etc.), or HDMI?

If standard video cables, use the R1 zoom option, and adjust the display properly via GT5 options. Make sure TV view is normal (not zoom, wide zoom, etc.) and your PS3 is set properly. If HDMI, adjust display settings in GT5 and PS3 (set proper definition (1080, 720, etc.)), make sure TV is not in zoom mode.

Other than that, I really have nothing else to say. I used to have a tube TV with standard definition, so GT5 Prologue looked ugly, bought a flatscreen and got an HDMI cable, set it to 720i or 1080i and the game looked crisp and clean.

What kind of connection are you using? Composite [Yellow cable]? Component [Red, Blue, Green]? or HDMI?

If you are using the yellow composite you need to get some cables based on what your TV supports. The game will look much much much better at 720P or above but you must use something other than the yellow cable to get the better res.

@Everybody: It's alright, everybody, the problem's been solved satisfactorily{just needed to adjust the settings in GT5, special thanks to Metfanant for pointing that out ;)}. Thanks to all who offered assistance, advice, or even just plain encouragement, and have a happy and safe New Year's Day holiday!

This Might Work For All you guys

1.Find menu on your Tv
2.Go to your Image option
3.Look for Aspect or Aspect Ratio and Change To The one Thats not Zoomed

Hope it works Sincerely, Adrian

I have a problem with my display, i'd noticed when playing that the picture was fuzzy etc so i had a dabble with the PS3 display settings, before i played the game again i was called away and forgot what i'd changed.

When i turned the game on again the start up and menu screen were perfect, vast improvement, however when i raced i noticed the other cars were higher than usual and the R1 zoom was not working. The picture was perfect size ( 42" hd )

My wife put her keep fit dvd on, overnight the ladies had lost weight and got taller ( the wife had'nt ). Reminded me of when you encode a movie 4.3 instead of 16.9 but the picture filled the screen. I've re-dabbled with my settings but its still ths same.
