Hey all,

I would appreciate it if you could take the time (Especially gamers!) to fill out this questionnaire that i have made in order to help me finish my research and write up my dissertation.

http://edu.surveygizmo.com/s3/486100/Gaming-and-Personal-Computers-Questionnaire

Also if you could write any comments below about improving the questionnaire please do.

Finally if anybody has any key contacts in the gaming world to developers I would be greatly appreciated as I need to try organize some short interviews.

Many thanks,

Tidgney

Cheers Duke for also allowing this :).

Great Questionnaire. One thing i'd change though is the question 9. I don't play games on the computer, mainly the PS3, so I had no clue what to do there. :\ Maybe making it optional?

Also under highest spec game, you've asked for make and speed of the GPU required when usually they specify a memory amount and don't specify a manufacturer.

Hey,

Cheers guys i'll get onto that asap :).

Thanks again for taking the time to do it, very much appreciated! :).

Done your questionnare. :)

Some feedback:

Your broadband speeds could have more options. A lot of providers provide "Up to 8Mbps" or "Up to 16Mbps". If I only had a 8Mbps connection I would probably only vote for a 5Mbps, which could lead to unreliable results.

The graphics card speed question was a little confusing. I presume you meant the core and memory speeds? I put them in, but many of the same cards vary (especially cards which have been and gone, like the 7800 GT I specified in my minimum requirements.). I looked on Wiki and put them anyways. Also, I supplied the standard and overclocked figures of my current video card - might be worth saying whether you wan't stock or overclock figures. :)

Other than that it was fine! Good luck with your dissertation. :)

Hey cheers very much appreciated.

The broadband was a hard one to try get some answers so i decided to just go with increments of 5. I understand that people can get 8/16 but then the increments wouldn't be as equal then it gets a little more difficult non the less though its still a good thought, and i like the idea.

Ye the technology part is the hardest part I've found had a lot of comments on this, found it hard to get it right so have been adjusting slightly to try make it easier. I'll adjust it with also showing an example i think from your feedback it might help a bit more :).

Cheers though GT for doing it and supplying feedback Very much appreciated!!

I posted a questionnaire in a forum at Gamespot, saying I was a student and wanted to know how many hours a week and such other people play games, and I was banned. No questions asked, just banned on the spot (no pun intended), their reason was for spam and/or advertising.

This is why I hate Gamespot. Well, that and because it's just crap. This is also why I'm going to go and do your questionnaire now.

I'm a little confused about question 6. Most of the time when you're talking about connection speed you use "Mbps" (megabit). Your notation is MB, which is Megabyte. Most ISPs report your connection speed to you in Mbps. So just keep that in mind. This may skew your results if people are confused. They are very similar notations but have VERY different meanings. 1 megabit = 0.125 megabyte. I have a 6 megaBIT connection which means I can download at maxmimum rate of .750 megaBYTES (750 kB/s). So you may want to clarify in your survey which notation you're intending.

Can see how why they ban sometimes but when its obvious its educational and has no effect on marketing a product I feel they should allow it after all its 1 member asking help from the community. Thats why I'm glad duke allowed it and am very gratful :).

@ Justdiver Cheers for that, much appreciated updated to clarify what I'm after :), so thankyou for the feedback Justdiver :).

Thanks to all who have taken it so far.

I have been on quite a few forums and see these "dissertation surveys", I report them as spam and usually the poster gets banned. The OP seems to have quite a few existing posts so has other interest.

These type of surveys get spammed everywhere on the internet, it's valuable information which can raise cash. All of them say it's educational/research for dissertation/On behalf of such and such university...
Even if it's not done for money it's still spam.
As you can tell I don't approve of them.

Do you really need the age and gender? If a survey doesn't have an "I don't want to say" option, and won't let you leave it blank, I either enter totally random information or just don't bother continuing with the survey.

Hi BobK,

I've put it in just to see whether there are any trends between age and other data in the questionnaire as It could be relevant in the write up of the research. But as I will have no idea who each individual is I thought that the age wouldn't need that answer, and therefore left it out. Unfortunately i think its a bit late to put one of those in now but thank you for the feedback bob greatly appreciated!

@ Blaaah

Hi blaaah,

Totally understand where your coming from there and apologies if you see this as spam.
