so, say I download the racecar pack. do I get those cars in my garage, or do they just appear in the dealership?

I'd imagine they go right to your garage. I don't see why you'd need to pay GT credits when you've already paid real world cash.

There are screenshots on the Gran Turismo website that show you how to get the DLC. I believe that when you get the Racing Car pack, that you get tickets that you then trade in for the cars.
