Hi there, my names Jake. I'm a long time reader of the forum, first time poster. I am a senior staff member on a popular football manager forum (fm-base.co.uk plug plug) for anyone interested in FM. I have had a fairly detailed search for some answers to my problem, but can't find anything. I'm sat here while my B-Spec driver (Bob?) is raping with my red bull x2010 as i never cared much for B-Spec but quite like the sound of some of the prize cars now i've become addicted to the game.

Anyway, me and 2 mates have regular races online at either Monza or Sarthe lasting about 1 and a half hours each to ensure fuel and tyre strategy come into play. It's great fun even though we are fairly average at the game.

Since the new DLC, the game tells me how much surface water is on the track. Yesterday it began to rain at Monza, getting pretty heavy at one point, both mates pitted and went onto intermediates, i noted that surface water level was only at 10% and stayed on my slicks, the rain tailed off about a lap after they pitted and i won the race as a result.

It's great that the game now tells me how much surface water there is, as previously i would have pitted too with only the visual clue of water crashing down form above to base my tyre choice on.
Are there set percentage levels for going onto each tyre type? Eg 0-25% slicks, 25-50% inters, 50-100% wets?

Any help with this matter would be amazing. :)

Side notes (as i know how annoying a load of new threads from a new user can be to forum staff ;))

- How annoying is the one car gifted to friends per day thing?! Is there a way around this? I accumulated a lot of credits from the seasonals before the pre DLC update made it harder to do this (500k for one lap of sarthe in a scuderia, ty PD) so i usually buy 3 of the same car and tune it to identical levels for us to race in, gifting it to my friends on the same day isn't possible though.

- When exactly does damage/tyre wear/fuel loss kick in on A-Spec mode? I'm level 29 and just getting towards the endurance races now, but i haven't noticed anything other than minor visible damage yet. Does A-spec behave in the same way as online races? Will i eventually see suspension and engine/gearbox damage as well as tyre wear, fuel depletion and major visible damage (major damage- can i expect doors/wheels etc to come off lol?)

-If i change consoles (current original PS3 is on it's last legs) can i simply log in on the new console using the same PSN ID and find all my cars and other data stored in the cloud, or will i need to perform some sort of backup and transfer from one consoles hard drive to another?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with any of my questions.

It's about 0-20% for slicks, 20-60% for intermediates and 60-100% for rain. That's for "low" grip settings. For "real", it will be about 5%-10% lower for each.

There's no way around the one car gift per day.

Tire/fuel consumption is only in Endurance Events.

If you change consoles, make sure you copy your save to a usb storage device. You'll also have to make sure you put that save back onto the same PSN account it was started on.

Thanks GTPorsche, i shall be sticking to slicks for much longer than my two mates then

What sort of damage can i expect and is this limited to Endurance as well?

Ah, so no cloud recognition of game data like xbox live, i'll backup now.

There isn't any mechanical damage, just visual. That occurs in every event.

If you have PS+ then you can do the Cloud thing...

Damage is always on, but it isn't as great as you might think. A 908 will have the bumpers and lights deformed, thats as far as it goes.

Rally cars on the other hand, do have doors and such that come off.

The only thing that will actually affect the vehicle dynamics is waht is shown on the damage model. No total engine blowouts, no tyres falling off, no wasted gearboxes.

I think PSN plus has some sort of cloud saving, but its probably only trophy info or something like that.

You should back-up your game save regularly anyway, you never know when your PS3 might die. I back mine up after a large haul of credits or getting another gold in the licenses or special events.

Arcade mode can have mechanical damage. If you try to take Eau Rouge at full speed in the McLaren F1 you will get some nasty damage.

Thanks for your help guys, i'll just stick to backing up i think, not really that fussed by PSN+

So online is the only place where i will experience mechanical damage, seems slighlty odd but at least it beats older versions of GT, i have memories of the words 'realism' and 'driving simulator' being banded around while everyone was grinding around using rubber bands and all sorts.....

AFAIK you can turn on mechanical damage in arcade mode

but not career

Psn+ isn't just trophies.
You can also automatically send saved data to the server (while the ps3 is checking for system/game updates)

Ps:
Sony, if you read this... Can I have a free 1 year extension to psn+ service ? :-)

You're really telling me that you don't know how to duplicate cars???

I've never looked into hacking or exploiting any flaws in the game. I'm sure PD didn't intend for any cars in the game to be duplicated, i don't take playing the game seriously enough to resort to bending the rules.

I'm happy to buy and win any cars i want, i'm just frustrated by PD's decision to only allow one gift a day.

1. save back up game save file to flash drive
2. Send car
3. Load up back up file from flash drive

It makes more sense if you are buying 3 of the same cars. It saves lots of money.

Actually, in my experience (24h races), for 'low' grip the following applies:
- Racing Soft is always better than Racing Wet, in all conditions (even 100%).
- Racing Intermediate is always better than Racing Wet, in all conditions (even 100%).
- Racing Intermediate is about the same as, or better than Racing Soft at 100% Surface Water (e.g. I have noticed that I can lap about 1-2 sec faster using RS than RI in 100% surface water at Le Mans. I have also noticed that I can lap about 15-20 sec faster, in the same car, with the same settings, using RI than RS in 100% surface water at Nurbergring 24h - Both examples are from the 24h races in A-spec).

Generally, the change-over point between RS and RI should be determined based on the track and the surface water. About 50-70 seems about right to change from RS to RI or back again ('Low' grip conditions), but there appears to be quite a lot of room to go outside these bounds given that you will lose at least 20 sec on most tracks by pitting. I would recommend following your normal pit strategy and thinking ahead if the track conditions are changing.

Interesting note, when the track was drying at Nurbergring, I was offered Racing Hard tyres at 57% surface water when pitting. Also, quite oddly (for anyone who watches F1 at least), as the track dried, the racing line remained wet, and off the racing line it was dry. This is contrary to what can be observed when watching a drying track in F1, where a dry-line appears on the racing-line.

jdm0388: In regard to the gifting of cars, have you considered letting your mates borrow your cars? You can put up to 6 cars online for your mates to borrow. This way you don't have to wait for those gifting resets. The only draw back of this method is that your mates will not get a copy of the car to keep.

Yeah i have been doing this, it's the garage clutter that annoys me the most though!

OK, i shall look into it :)

This is the way to go!

If you happen to have a 2nd memory stick... Keep a backup of your backup on it just in case... if not, save your gamedata to your PC (keep the folder structure)... There have been people who were not paying attention and have deleted their savedata... that 2nd memory stick, dont use it often (I dont a real backup like this about 1x a week in addition to my daily backups for trading)

And if you dont have a 2nd memory stick, buy one, they are like $10.... Better than possibly loosing everything over a mistake and starting the game over again...

*** Edit ***** this is ALL cheaper than the PSN save cloud they have for the PS+ Members... (unless you want the discount on the DLC or want discounts on other games)

Thanks for all the friendly advice so far guys. It's good to know there are other forums out there with helpful, approachable members. The Football Manager website i moderate on is one of the few in that community that doesn't see it's established members ridicule noobs like they are some sort of second class citizen.

All this backing up and double backing up has become part of my routine already, it's hassle but it's better than starting again from scratch as i remember i had to do once on the original GT.
