normally when you gift a car, the gift receiver gets the paint chip from the car, is this still the case if you paint the car before sending it? So if I paint a M3 metallic orange, will the person receiving it get the metallic orange paint chip as well or get no paint chip?

Unfortunately, no.

You'll only get a paint chip of a gifted car if the paint is original to when that car was bought/won.

So I am not the only one trying to think of ways to get tons of paint chips of the same color! basically if you find a car with the paint you want, BUY IT, then gift it to a secondary account, then gift back the car and paint chip and all of a sudden you have 3 paint chips! guess you are limited to doing that once per day though.

What about if you paint a car a color that is a standard color for that car? For instance I bought a 3000GT in black and painted it Passion Red which is a standard color for the 3000GT in the used car lot, so will that paint chip be sent with the car if gifted?

You will get the paint chip of the original color. I have a Verde Ithaca LP670 that I painted from a LP640 chip, but whenever I gift it back and forth I get the original Grigio Telesto chip. So pick the colors you really want to buy and have...matte black seems to be the only replicable matte color.

So the "Mat" Black 2009 FT-86 I have should be kept! might want to trade that back and fourth a few times to get extra paint chips...
