Do you go to work sick?

This really pisses me off. When you are sick you are contagious and will make other people sick. And yet some people have no regard for this and show up, coughing and sneezing all over the place, sticking their hands in the holiday treats so nobody else can eat any, contaminating the door knobs, drinking fountain, and faucets, and breathing their germs all over the place. There is also the gross factor. Listening to someone blow mucus out of their face all day is sickening, and their disgustingly clogged up sounding voice, especially when they are the type that need to be talking all day long... I mean, who want's to hear that? When you are sick, please be courteous and stay home until you are well. Thank you.

Well said.

No one likes other peoples germs. Also annoying when you get someone constantly sniffing all day.

No, I don't. I've tried before and everyone told me to go home (:

I just hate all those adds for so called instant flu remedies. They always seem to involve some stupid work situation where the person has an important meeting at the exact time they become ill.

Err, my answer is no.

I don't get ill. It's maddening. Last year I had a day off because I was burnt out. However, there were several people in our department who took in excess of 40 days off sick last year.

It annoys me.

The other thing is this: if I don't go into work, the work doesn't get done. Which means that when I were to return to work after some (clearly hypothetical) bout of sickness, I'd have so much work to do that I would probably just get sick again.

Yeah, I hate those too. The only one I've tried that actually worked for me was DayQuil and NyQuil tablets. They don't actually remedy anything. They just help with the symptoms.
I had the flu a few weeks ago and it was the only way I could sleep. I was getting 1 or 2 hours of sleep a night for the first few days. Then I started taking NyQuil before I went to sleep and it honestly helped a lot. I was able to sleep through the whole night without any problems.

If I'm sick, I'll stay home. The only time I'll go into work or school when I'm sick is if I have no other choice. The flu mentioned early, I had during my exams at the end of last semester. I had no choice but to go in anyway.

Sometimes.

There are days when I don't feel all that bad, don't make a deal out of being sick, and feel alright enough to work. So I go to work. There's also the fact that I don't always have the "sick pay" to cover time off. But if I'm really ill; can't move, can't think, can't breathe, etc. then I call right in whenever possible. I don't even care if I'm not getting paid for it by then.

What usually happens is this: I realize getting sick as I'm at work one day, it, go home, get sleepy, or worse yet, not getting any sleep because I'm sick, so I call in the next day.

But some people take off too many days because they are "ill", and I take between one to three days off a year. Some people have ne regard for others in their workplace.

However, I've taken off more days sick at this job than any other; are luxury cars just breeding grounds for germs?

I dont go to work (im only 13)...just a month ago it was epidemy of the flu in helsingborg (i live there) and almost everyone was sick and red and coughed...it was just disgusting....
*edit* I cant spell...so what?

I also think people should blow their nose in private. This one guy at my office a few weeks ago would actually stand up to blow his nose. Everybody could see and the sound projected throughout the whole place. He did this around every ten minutes. And during my final exam last month on guy sniffed approximately every 12.65 seconds. I was very close to killing him.

I can't miss any of my classes so...I have to go to school :(. But generally, I'll never have anything more than a runny nose/sore throat that follows the change of the seasons.

But yea, if I'm sneezing like crazy & feel like crap then I won't go to school...but luckily, that hasn't happened in years

being self employed 50% of the time, i have to work even if i am dying....other wise i go to work unless i am really ill. Colds and stuff dont bother me too much but broken limbs can be more difficult when it comes to manuoverability...

i hate people that run out of the room when they discover you have the cold....they just need a good slap to calm them down, getting the cold is inevitable, other wise you'll end up like M. Jackson...living in a bubble, but beileve that some people prefer to shut themselves off from the outside world and live in a box...

ever tried ti chi?

You need to look at your avatar and take it to heart, my friend.

If I have a minor cold, or congestion, I will go to work. If im vomiting, and can't move. Nope. Staying home.

Nope. Round them all up and drown them. Even that's too good for them.

I've had perfect attendance at work 2 years running. By April, that will hopefully be a third year :D I think I get an "Award" from my employer if I don't have a day off sick for 3 years.

I try to go to work if I am not contageous.... sometimes it is hard to tell whether that is the case. When I have a fever I stay home because I am definitely contageous. Otherwise I usually go to work, but usually when I get sick it's really bad and I get a fever.

If I had really bad congestion from a bacterial infection I would stay home until the antiobiotics took effect - after which I would go to work knowing that I can't get anyone else sick, even if they do think I sound gross.

I'd average 2-3 sick days a year. I'm a little prone to migraines which would be the main reason I'm away due to health. It's pretty rare for me to get seriously ill - I just had a gastro bug which forced me to take two days off, which was the first of that sort of thing I've had in over 5 years, and I haven't had the flu since '99.

I wouldn't take the day off for a cold, though. I do take the odd rare 'mental health' day, but I do work extra hours so I consider those 'time in lieu'.

Compared to the sick leave record of some here, though, I'm an absolute saint.

When I was younger, I went to work unless I had a fever, or the runs.
Now, the merest of sniffles will keep me home.
I work in a hospital, and have for seven years. I figure by now my immunity will kill small animals in the park at 50 yards.
So, if a germ is bad enough to take me down, it'll probably kill the people I'm paid to help make well.

Besides, If I'm having loose green water diarrhea, I really don't want to "pass it around" the patients. Cause by the time I've kicked it, they'll all have it and require help cleaning their backsides.
It's bad enough that I have to spend the day in the loo for my own self. I don't cotton forced exposure to 80-year-old asses all day.

If you must come to work sick, plan to wash your hands often. That will help some to cut the spread of infectious germs...

I'd go to work if I got sick. I couldn't care less about the bastards I work with.

Whenever I have a job. I'm in college and only keep a job during the breaks, I work rain or shine, good or bad. I didn't take a sick day once in my life, don't plan on it, even if I can't walk. It's a challenge to me to see what people will react to at the office. Muahahah!

I rarely ever get sick, but if I am sick, I am showing up to work no matter what. If I'm sick enough that I really can't work, then I get sent home by my boss. That's the way it should be, always.

I don't care how sick you are, you better show up and let me have a look at ya, and if I decide that you are sick enough, then I send you home.
I can't really stand those that call out of work with a mere sniffle. (except for Gil, as I don't want to clean up dirty ass either.) Suck it up and go to work. Show that you are a dedicated worker and if you are truly sick, I'll send you home.
I really don't want sick people handling food, so I'll modify a sick employees work detail so that their contact with ready to eat foods is kept to a minimum, or they go home if they are really ill.
But in the Food and Beverage industry, there is work that needs to be done today and now. It's not like the 9 to 5 desk jockies that can get away with the "what doesn't get done today, will get done tomorrow" mentality.

In all actuallity, I think my stance on this subject is overly harsh, but in my own defense, it's been made that way due to too many people abusing a sick day when they are really not sick, just to get out of a day of work. It happens a lot when there is 10 fresh inches of snow on the ground. People calling out left and right saying they are "sick" when in all actuallity they want to go skiing. Or their "sickness" is actually a hangover.
I guess that is what irkes me the most. If you truly are sick, I don't want you at work, I want you at home getting better so that you can get back to your job and perform. It's just a difficult situation to deal with when business is booming and you need everyone on your schedule to be at work.

I worked for about three days or so when I felt the flu coming on, and then took two of the worst days off, then went back until I was back to 100%. I took another day off so I could go out on a date... which was stupid, and I didn't get anywhere either (not in a sex sence, but as far as dating). :p Other than that, I haven't called in for the past year and a half.

If I have anything less than the flu (not stomach, I went to work during that crap, no pun intended) then I feel I should show up. I feel bad if I don't go in, and I don't have anything to do at home.

I agree with him. ^

A long time ago I went to work and got very sick while I was there. I was white as a ghost, sweating, and weak and dizzy. I went home and went to bed. The next day I felt fine so I went back to work and the same thing happened. It happened for a third day in a row but on the third day, when I got home and took my shirt off I noticed red dots all over me. I had chicken pox. I gave it to one of my co-workers. Having chicken pox at 22 really sucked.
