everytime before i corner, i always think that i need to get the maximum speed out of i can get while cornering, and sometimes i always end up understeering. everytime, i always slow down but i don't slow down enough because i'm always worried about cornering fast enough. whenever i slow down early and play normally i play fine and beat, but i can't do it all the time, i always think about trying to corner, so i try to accelerate super fast and always brake late, how do you guys cope with this?

i can't understand, i mean i can't fully explain what i'm trying to say, it's so ahrd to explain and stuff because i don't know .but if you know what i mean yeah.

i mean i know how to slow down and stuff, but it's just that i don't know how to explain, nvm so hard, but yeah.

i mean like everytime, i always want to get the maximum speed out of cornering, and sometimes i understeer 'cuz i speed too fast, and i can't stop thinking about trying to get maximum speed while cornering. you know what i mean? how do i handle this?

1. It's just a game, don't hyperventilate, take it one corner at a time.

2. Have you done the license tests? They exist to teach beginner's how to properly learn the game; and to serve as highly annoying 'feelings of accomplishment' in the later game.

3. You can not sometimes always do something, the laws of physics will not allow for it.

4. Your basic problem appears to be late braking in a car that is not setup for it, many of the cars in GT4 with the basic settings have STRONG understeer tendencies, ie: if you brake too late and then try to turn you merely careen off of the tarmac and into a wall.

5. Try some of MFT's 'tail-happy' cars and you can eliminate this problem and replace it with a much more exciting and more dizzy problem 👍

Not to mentio braking before the corner and then accelerating through is often quicker, smoother and more consistent anyway, your trying to trail brake every corner by the sounds of it and that's hazardous to your lap times and health.👍

wow thanks a lot, this helped so much.

Also, If you try to hit that apex abit tighter, you wont oversteer as much.

Just as your coming up to it, let go of the gas completly, coast in, break when you feel it's coming to fast if you still need it. Thats how i learned, It just helped me *speed check* myself as coming into the corner.

how about a more important question, what car/layout do you drive? FR is less prone to understeer then FF, as in if you are in a civic or similarly front wheel propeled car you will find understeer all the friggen time.

drive an rx7, stock. great car to learn to drive in, balanced, capable and not to hard tohandle in stock form.

In my experience FF cars oversteer under brakes which seemed to be where his big problem was, under acceleration of course they understeer but under brakes they turn like a dog with a bone when you sneak up behind them. Makes it easier to get the car pointing in the right driection if you know what I mean so you can put foot down and get out of corner. Correct me if I'm wrong.

most definately depends on braking technique and the brake bias as well as the car in question. FF always loads the front heavily so unless you really toss it at the turn then slam the brake, or drive a tiburon which has some quirky handling all it's own, i'd have to disagree.

for the original poster i'd get a proven FR(silvia,fd,corvette etc.), because it's the most stable and well rounded layout in my opinion, and just drive one somewhat short track with at least one good straight away in it over and over untill your laps become consistant. Getting one good lap in ten isn't good enough, you need to be within two seconds of yourself 90 percent of the time. Getting a suspension tune from one of the tuner teams here but without increasing the power is another good step, a reliable well tuned suspension can make all the difference. being a fast driver is worth ten times having a faster car. grass/walls equals no go.

FF's don't HAVE to be bad... We've got three cars that say otherwise.

My Integra
My RSX
Vince's Cooper

:D

And for a learner car... My RX-8, if you want FR, Vince's Cooper if you want front-drive, and my Legacy or Evilution for AWD.

hmm, never said they were bad, just that they heavily load the front tires (they do).

In your post i see,,nearly nothing relating to the topic, and a promo for your garage. while those tunes may be fine it doesn't change that FF sucks statistically as well as in your own opinion. they transfer weight in disadvantageous ways, never using their drive tires as effectively as other layouts do, the original poster is having problems with understeer and you are advising he try other FF's. i know for a fact your tunes are a step forward from stock, but if he's understeering another ff may not be the answer. At least you advise other layouts you've produced, but without explaining why they would help him or why he's having problems, marginally helpful at best to him but a post count and advertisment for you, true motive anyone?

original poster, ff is KNOWN for understeer, it's the main disadvantage of the layout, if you are driving an FF another layout is a hge step in the right direction.

Yep, yep, and YEP.

Lay you 10-1 if he uses the same braking zones he uses in any other car with the Integra, he won't have the problems he currently has.

And, also, just giving up on a drivetrain is not the way to go. If you can find how to get an FF to corner properly, you'll be at an advantage in AWD cars, and FRs will feel just awesome.

His problem isn't understeering. It's overdriving the car. Anything in the WORLD will understeer when overdriven.

Biggest disadvantage FWD has is the weight shift off the drive tires under acceleration, which means that the front tires have less grip to split between power application and lateral grip. And by the same token, excessive rearward weight shift in anything will eventually cause understeer. Excess forward, you get oversteer.

Slow in IS fast out. Fast in IS dead out. You come in too hot, you have to slow down through the corner to make the exit. Come in rather slowly, you can jab the throttle harder, earlier and exit at a higher speed.

There's my two cents.

And I will always put a plug in wherever I can.

I agree with what RJ said here, just what I said earlier in more detail and technical terms. Remember though, it is probably good to drive in and brake late through turns with late apexes to get around and then accelerate on to the apex, so late braking aint always bad ;) Agreed everyone?

True, and in fact trail braking could be used to an advantage there.

But that's going for best times. It's not always consistent.

Do it this way. It's more fun. :p

Flog it through the corner at your speed. If you go off....which you will, then go through the same corner 5km/h slower, then repeat till you find your limit of the car. :)
That's how I learnt, and I still drive it with 2 wheels hanging off most tracks 1/2 the time because I'm constantly using all the track trying to go all out and know the limits of 99% of my cars compared to the tracks, but sometimes it's better to go through the lines that you learnt during the Licence Tests. :)

Mafs!!

i'm driving a s14, silvia k's aero. it's FR

If it was an s13 you could have tried Rotary Junkie's car great for pushing limits that one. Just keep up with what's been said and you'll be fine, smoother is quicker.

Yeah, the Silvia 180RS Autech is a quite good car. Just find yesself a '88 S13 K's and apply parts and tune.

See sig.

Ummm, Holdenboy, S13/14/15's share the same front end, hence why all the body parts between those models are interchangable and you see S13.4's, S13.5's, S14.5's, S15.4's, and add the Sil80 & OneVia aswell. :)

I suggest using RJ's S13 guide and adapt to your S14. I've done similar with my S14, just a bit more power (426hp) though making it a bit of a pig to drive without setting it up to grab at low speeds, above 200km/h it's a good little car.

Mafs!!

I wouldn't recommend that.

The S14 handles completely differently, slight changes in the weight balance, etc., and it's heavier. So my '88 K's setup WILL NOT work with an S14.

I agree with RJ here, you need the S13, to get the overall balance of the car right with his setup. Or you could just buy a Monaro, love that car. Need a tune on that, check it out at Aussie Tuners, see MY signature.

RJ, have you used your '88 K's setup on a '91 K's?? Just curious how the engine change from CA to SR would affect the car on GT4, seeing they're both S13.

Mafs!!

Yes just check out AUSSIE TUNERS or RRV.... we would sort out the car you need but a review is in order for that though ... did i mention we do drift cars as well

Braking late shaves off hundredths, keeping the proper line and coming out of the corner clean shaves tenths.

Brake earlier, and you'll come out of the corner cleaner, more consistent and faster.

(And yes I know what you're talking about, I still do it when I'm pushing too hard.)
