Do you have any relatives fighting in Iraq?

One of my most loved uncles is on his way to Iraq right now. :nervous: We all feel sad and scared but we are so proud of him at the same time.
He's not exactly going to be on the rough battlefield, he's going mostly to train/teach the Iraqi/American troops because he's an official of high range, (at least that's what they've told him), but still......
He's scheduled to come back on August, but until then, he'll be located in a base near the border with Iran.

So. Does anybody here have friends or relatives serving in the military forces in Iraq?

EDIT: and btw, I searched.
 
My cousin went, but returned a while ago. Don't really know too many people who were sent.
 
I think just about every American is one or two people removed from someone who's been to Iraq or is presently stationed there. One crucial thing to remember is that literally hundreds of thousands of troops have been sent there over the last few years and, what, 3,000 have died? It's probably less than one percent. Probably less than half a percent. Not that they're not risking their lives - they are - or they're not heroes - they are - but hopefully if you do have loved ones there, you can take that into account.

I get the feeling most people think it's a death zone where no American emerges alive. It's really not like that.
 
Yes, and those 3,000 dead is another 3,000+ families and friends that greive about their loss. But I digress, the closest thing I have to this is a social studies teacher in my school is a medic there.
 
Brother in law was; don't know if he's returned. He's a Marine.
 
My first cousin is currently serving with the Army in Baghdad. He is actually getting to come home for a few weeks beginning on Feb. 7th (I always knew that was a great day... :D), so my entire family is really looking forward to that. 👍

I agree - but thinking negatively, especially if you've got a loved one fighting over there, is absolutely the wrong thing to do.
 
One of my close friends is heading off to Afghanistan in March. He has just come back from Iraq.
 
He just came back from Iraq and he's heading back to Afghanistan? Boy that's a pretty scary schedule right there :scared:

I had a friend from college that went. He was a tank sergeant (don't know the military term for it) and I remember right after 9/11 he was doing everything he could to get duty in Afghanistan or Iraq. Finally in our last semester he got called up and was supposed to ship out two weeks before finals. The university worked out a special situation so he coudl complete his degree before he left.

I know he came back but I lost touch with him after a while. Living in different cities can do that. Knowing his attitude he probably tried to go back. He was very military minded in that as long as we were there he wanted to be there.
 
I have a cousin who's completed two tours in Iraq; he's been on admin duty the entire time, so he's talking about getting out to do police work back in his hometown. I'm not exactly sure of the circumstances...
 
I have a sibling in the Army - deployment to Iraq is constantly in the realm of possibility, but it hasn't happened yet. Still, I look at the statistics and remind myself that even if deployment happens, I probably won't be losing a family member.

He called yesterday and he said there were TONS of food there. I didn't expect that but good for him :)
 
No family I have went to Iraq, but I used to be in boy scouts and one of the kids who was an eagle scout when I just joined was killed in Iraq in 2004. Very sad day it was.

BTW: I Support the troops and the war against terrorism and Ozzy, your uncle is a hero. Alos this summer I am probaly doing a 6 week boot camp for all youths. Its the real deal but a bunch of teenagers. My dad wants me to do it becuase he dont want me joining the military and he thinks it will diter me from joining, but to his suprise I am exited and want to do it.
