Do you have to be online in order to play the Demo?

Hi guys, I know that this is a competition and that you need to be online to submit your times, it's just that for the time being, I don't have internet at my apartment... So I plan on bringing my PS3 to a friend's house and download the demo there. Problem is, I don't want to do it just to find out that I can't play offline when I get home. Can anyone please do a fellow GT fan a favor and verify? Thanks!

My apologies if this has been posted already, but the amount of new topics and posts is just overwhelming!
 
it connects online to update the rankings everytime you try to launch an event, so if the servers are un-connectable, then it won't start.
 
Actually I've had my connection drop several times while playing and everything is fine, it just isn't able to complete the 'updating scores' step and you have to manually abort. Also, obviously your lap times will not go to the leaderboard. You can still zip around the track to your heart's content though.
