The forthcoming Dodge Avenger — as well as a future version of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring — will be offered with Volkswagen's 136-horsepower 2.0-liter TDI diesel in the United States, according to a report by U.K.-based AutoExpress cited by Edmunds. Because Leftlane News has not seen the AE report, we cannot independently verify that it contains this claim. While it might seem logical that such an engine would be offered in the U.K., it's surprising to hear Chrysler would offer the option in America. As previously reported, the the Sebring coupe-convertible and Dodge Avenger are expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show in July.

Awesome, very good news indeed. It does make me wonder, does that also mean that VW will be changing the TDI powerplant in the rest of their (American) lineup as well? Also, does that mean the DSG transmission will be used on the DCX models?

Two questions.

1. Why are they bringing back the Avenger name? (isn't that more hated than Stratus?)

2. Why are they debuting the vehicles at Paris? (will they fly Hertz out for the week?)

I'm not sure on the Avenger name change, but my guess is that keeping the Stratus name pissed off some people. Atleast they didn't call it the Breeze...

They should call it the Cumulonimbus.

Diesel in a convertible, it better be smooth.
