Does a set of tyres wear out gradually, across several races?

The tyre life seems to be slightly depleted on most of my cars, even at the start of any event which I'm assuming is because they're the same 'set' as I bought originally and aren't magically refreshed before each race starts. The game doesn't seem to make any mention of this so can I 'refresh' my tyres by simply purchasing the same set? Or have I got it all wrong to begin with?

You get a new set of tyres every race.

Early races don't have tyre wear, but later ones, and the endurances, do. You don't need to buy a set every time you pit for new ones...

Fair enough, what I can't quite understand though is why the rear tyres have a bit of wear on them at the start of races but the fronts don't seem to. Is that just a graphical glitch?

I can't say I've noticed any difference in the levels at the start of races.

Sounds like an FR cars to me..too much torque/gas?have you tried on FF cars?Tyre wears much at the front tho
 
The colour of the tyres only indicates the temperature of the tyres, not the wear.
Like below here the tyre wear is marked like bars that deplete, the more they're depleted the more they're worn out.

Exactly, that's my point - the rears are always a bit depleted.
