425hp for the Celica and 420hp for the Beetle are the highest for FF cars in the game.

I think these are before oil changes.

On the how much is too much power issue - I tried the pro FF in most of these cars and actually won it in the Beetle Cup Car. This may be due to its race mods but could also be the best balance regarding hp.

Indeed. It has a bigger wheelbase, stays very stable, and can keep up with the competition. The normal beetles are definitely less than exciting, though.
