It struck me today, how much does 3D really cost, just to try it out.
Then I found 3D monitors at 230€! 👍
But wait does this work?

First of all look at this thread (I remembered Ibo going into this subject):
3D GT5 on Pc displays??
Look here for some reviews of 3D users

My advise seems to be: make certain you get your money back if it does not work or have a demo in the shop with a PS3.

So anybody that dared to take the step, please share:
* Clearly indicate what hardware you are using:
e.g.: SAMSUNG 3D SyncMaster 2233RZ Monitor
* Is it good now?
* What setup works?
* Cheap is also possible?

P.S.: Although I'm skeptical on 3D technology, I'm confident that aiming (pistol in my case) is a lot more precise in 3D (=2 eyes) then 2D. So clearly driving in 3D must be an advantage.

User feedback:
* Sony KDL46NX710 3D TV 👍👍👍
* PS3 can't do 3D on monitor that lacks HDMI 1.4 (HDMI 1.3 still displays PS3 fine but no 3D) 👎
* Samsung plasma TV, be careful with the grain

I got to test the demo in 3D at the beta room event in Birmingham and was very impressed (enough to take the plunge and get a VT20 3D tv). The effect was very subtle and am looking forward to seeing it tomorrow when I collect my SE. There was no 'screen pop', just a natural looking sense of depth. I am expecting to be blown away tomorrow, as the demo I had was on a tiny screen, in a brightly lit room; where any game in 3D will always look far better on a large display in dark conditions (hence why I've also bought some 'black out' curtains so can play in dark even during the day).
Will post a full review tomorrow once I've had a chance to test it properly and let you guys know!

3D GT5 will be 30 FPS. (someone confirm this)
30FPS in a racing game is NO NO.

30 FPS with high speed cars will hurt your eyes because you will find frames too slow, as well 3D will hurt your EYES.

Wait untill 3D tvs are cheaper or when 3D tvs wont require glasses. In Japan by Xmass there will be some 3D tvs that dont require glasses.

30fps didn't seem an issue when I tried it, though only 8 cars in that demo so will see how it handles 16 cars plus weather etc tomorrow.
Eye strain won't be an issue. I've been playing loads of 3d games for 3 weeks now and havnt had any issues but again, everyone is different and would always recommend a thorough test before forking out on a new tv.
Anyway, only a few hours until we get the game and I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be testing 3D and posting their findings so we'll find out soon enough:)

30FPS is fine for console racing games. That's coming from an PC FPS player who plays his games at 120fps ;)
But no, do not get a monitor for 3D gaming unless it has HDMI 1.4. I have a 3D monitor, but the PS3 can't do 3D on it because my monitor lacks HDMI 1.4 (it has 1.3 so still displays PS3 fine). Sonys officially supported 3DTV's are the best way to go atm. Fortuanatly I bought my 3D monitor for 120fps, as my PC doesn't even have an nvidia 3D GPU in it :)

Would suggest Sony's are avoided at all costs! Crosstalk on any LCD is horrific. If you are going to buy a 3D tv make sure it's a plasma! I tested the '93' series and could have saved myself a couple of hundred quid but when compared back to back with the VT20 the difference is staggering! Anyone around Manchester get to Superfi and demo these sets for yourself in their theatre rooms. A one hour test was enough for me to sell my beloved Kuro, something I never thougt I would do, and havn't regretted it for a minute!

I really do not know how GREAT it looks, but for the comments, it is a new way to enjoy GT. Astounding as I read.

Looking forward to a 3D Bravia, when the money reaches me :nervous:

A big hug.

Eager Snake.

I was kinda dissapointed with the 3D, i might have to do some picture calibration tho, but i find the picture abit grainy, no issues so far with fps tho. Used 3D the first 2 hours then i turned it off.

But as i mentioned i probably need to calibrate the 3D, there was some settings in the game aswell, ill try to fiddle with it today.

Im using a Samsung plasma.

Can you all indicate clearly what hardware you are using:

e.g.: Panasonic TC-P42GT25 TC-P42GT25 42" Class Viera GT25 Series Full HD 3D 1080p Plasma

I hope to find someone using: SAMSUNG 3D SyncMaster 2233RZ Monitor or similar

I don't own a 3D TV but have been playing GT5 on a Sony KDL46NX710 3D TV.

3D effects are good, in car view is really impressive in 3D. While racing, no issues.

It does run 720p/30fps as all games are locked to that for 3D mode. It depends on how fixated you are on running at 60fps. I can tell the difference, but it doesn't bother me provided whatever FPS a game is running that it is consistent and smooth, which GT5 is in 3D.

Until replays. 3D Replays look good, but get very choppy with multiple cars on the screen. I haven't had good experience with replays in 3D. While racing, fine, in replays, no go.

Some fine tuning wouldn't go astray to smooth out the replay issue, and I'm yet to play with the 3D picture settings to tweak it just right, but this game will sell 3D TV's, it looks that good and gives a great impression. I know I'll be picking up a 3D TV as soon as they drop a bit in price.

@olebob, the grain your seeing is a trait of that Samsung plasma. I've tried to alter the settings to get rid of the grain but it just seems to be a part of that TV. Compared with other 3D sets, the grain appears to be there to stay. Its not bad, but depends on how much you dislike grain on your picture.

I was reading a bit up on the subject and it seems interesting to wait for 3D using passive polarized glasses. However this technology is not up to point for home use (no HD at the moment) and the price is also still high. Still some issues with compatibility with 3D Blue Ray, etc...

I have found some decent 3D game settings after a few hours of tweaking...

In the GT5 3D setup menu - for in car view primarily

Parallax set to 3
Convergence set to 0.9

This has given me a good depth to the 3D while eliminating the worst of the crosstalk for in car. There is still some crosstalk but you have to look harder to see it and it is no where near as obvious as it was with other settings.

For Bumper cam/other views primarily....

Parallax set to 6
Convergence set to 0.9

This will introduce crosstalk for interior view so not to be used for that. It does also introduce crosstalk on objects close to the front of the screen, so ideal for bumper view. It adds more depth to the picture so gives a very cool look to the bumper cam I feel.

This is with a Sony KDL46NX710. As for 3D TV settings, I changed the brightness of the glasses from 'Auto' to 'High'.

Have been much more impressed with the 3D effects after getting the settings sorted and racing in game just looks awesome. The most impressive car/track combos I've raced with in 3D, in Arcade mode, would be.....

-Indianapolis + Mountain Dew Green Nascar (sorry I forget the name of it and don't have GT in front of me atm)

-Circuit La Sarthe Change Time + Ferrari F40

-Cape Ring Periphery + Art Morrison Corvette

All the cars look great, but those are the standouts that have really impressed me. For example, the DuPont Yellow Nascar (the other default Nascar option in Arcade mode, sorry forget the name again) doesn't look as good in 3D as its a cleaner car on the inside and dash and doesn't have as impressive and obvious depth that the other one does.

Also i asked this question long time ago, it seems that hooking up the ps3 with a 3D Pc monitor will not be possible like the SAMSUNG 3D SyncMaster 2233RZ, simply because those don't come as stand alone package (no glasses) and to use 3D with those you need the nvidia vision.

If it comes to good offers:
The Panasonic TX-P42GT20E is available for 999€ and has good reviews.
The Sony KDL-40HX800 for 1290€ (+120 € for transmitter + glasses)
The Samsung Le40C750 for 890€ with glasses

I thought about the Sony but the post above in the thread linked is not that good.
The Panasonic looks fine

I had the opportunity to try it out today @ www.salonauto.be (Belgian Car show)

The whole set up was Sony obviously on a GT5 Demo.

The letters jump out of the screen, I´m convinced 3D adds greatly to replays (forgot to test this), but in the racing it did not really feel like an extra to me.

The setting was bad, bright lights from the side really made the experience difficult.

Specifically on issues I read before:
1) Glasses did not feel heavy, and I believe even with me wearing normal glasses below, it would be possible to wear them quite a time.
2) when turning your head the effect blurs, this could have happened to me. Going in a turn, I probably turned my head slightly. One of the issues I had was indeed the occasional loss of focus.

So not convinced yet.
