Does anyone play GT4 or PS2 on a widescreen LCD HDTV?

Not quite sure where this belonged, so I figured General discussion was a safe place to post it.

I just played GT4 in 1080i on my 27" widescreen LCD and I must say, i'm unimpressed. I noticed a lot of aliasing (jaggies).

I want to say i'm just used to the 360's visuals, but I know that's not the case. I don't remember all this aliasing on my old CRT and it doesn't appear in screenshots/videos (trying to refresh my memory).

Is anyone else having this issue with their LCD? I haven't tried it on my 46" DLP yet, but i'd imagine it would probably be worse.

I want to pick up Tourist Trophy, but if it's gonna look like this it would be very disappointing.

Is this just the nature of PS2 on a LCD? Any and all help/feedback would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

dude, im a poor college student that waited on ebay for weeks to find a cheap TV that he could pick up so he didnt have to pay shipping
(for $129 out the door, brand new 27in. flat CRT toshiba w/built in dvd player...nice)

so, i only wish i had the luxury of viewing GT4 on a DLP or LCD...sorry cant help

Trust me, GT4 looks much better on your CRT than it does on my LCD. It looked better on my 20" CRT. This TV is great for 360 and DVDs but with PS2 games it's pretty bad.

Maybe it's the nature of PS2 on the LCD. I have a DLP, I will give that a shot tomorrow.

If you haven't already, get an S-Video cable. It makes THE difference. The first time I plugged into my parents' 42-inch HDTV, I wasn't too impressed. One $10 investment later, I was in heaven.

I'm pretty sure you can't play in 1080i with an S-Video cable, which means he's using componet cables already, which SHOULD be better then S-Video.

I'm running in 1080i on a 50" Hitachi LCD, and I only notice the aliasing on Special Condition races, ie. Cathedral Rocks. Still, its only minimal, and for a brief second. Even on my girlfriends 21" LCD its still only those races that theres any jagged lines. What brand of TV, cables, etc are you using? Any information could help us to come to a better conclusion.

That's correct, you can't view HD via S-Video.

I'm using a 27" ViewSonic N2750W with the regular PS2 component cables. The TV looks GREAT with the XBOX 360 and DVD movies. It even looks good with standard broadcast television, so it's definitely not the set.

I also have a 46" Toshiba DLP (46HM95) but haven't tried that yet.

Try doing a search. This topic has been talked about before, a lot! Good info in those posts, too.

I tried searching before posting, but didn't find anything =\
Thanks though, I will try again knowing there is something out there.

So this "aliasing" is actually the screen flickering problem? I wonder if they've fixed the programming for Tourist Trophy, i'm way more concerned about that. I just popped GT4 in for graphical reference on the new TV.

Are you sure?

Lots of threads on GT4 HDTV users there. :)

Edit: Damn, link doesn't work anymore. Do a search for just "HDTV" in the GT4 forum and you'll find what you want.

That's odd. I just tried one, and got four pages of threads, with some with a similar title to yours.

Also, try using the edit button instead of making double posts. If it continues, the mods will take away and erase all your posts.

Sorry about the double posting. Doh! I didn't even see the forum search. I was using the one on the top right, then checking "search GTPlanet.net"

Well, that explains it. Thanks guys, I will do a proper search now :o

The two different search buttons and the one that actually works properly can be quite confusing at first so i don't blame you.

I unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to play on a widescreen or HDTV etc, still at university so have to make do with my 17" :D

After reading through a bunch of threads, this seems to be more of a problem on non CRT HDTVs.

From what I understand, there's no real fix for this other than tweaking your TV settings to get the best possible picture, right?

I really hope this was somehow fixed in Tourist Trophy. After playing GT4 for a little while like this I started to get dizzy. Worst case scenario I can play on my old CRT, but it seems silly going back to that after buying these new TVs :o
