I've been driving without ASM for many months now, after seeing a few posts saying that ASM really slows you down.

Been trying to get gold at the Nurb24H in the Race Car seasonal, and try as I might, the best I can do is silver (and that must have been a fluke as it happened once and I can't remember which car I did it in!!).

So I decided to switch ASM back on until I've got the gold on this one. But, it doesn't seem to make any difference at all. It is not slowing me down, and isn't helping if (when) I clip the grass... I still go all wibbly wobbly or plain spin out!

What are your views? Where is it supposed to help or hinder?

Yes, it slows you down big time when you try to enter a corner.

Yes, to prove it try doing a few license tests with and without it.
I'm not sure if this is 100% correct but it seems to me when you're turning and the car detects any wheel-spin the ASM will cut the throttle until it is stable again.

It's down to your driving style. ;)

ASM is a really time killer, like ABS 2-10. Do some hot laps & learn to drive without.

You'll see that you are faster without some aids. :dopey:👍

Certain cars it definatly helps(yellowbird),but yeah it does slow it down

Thanks, I'll try that.

But that's the point... I haven't been using it for months, and now I've switched it back on I don't notice any difference. Maybe I'm too slow in general for it to have an effect??

For me, you can't "free-wheel" the car and get it to oversteer at will, because the ASM will step in and say "No". In my experience, it causes understeer. It may be valuable for high-powered evenly matched AI, but when it comes to licences, tests, special/hard seasonal events, I firmly believe you'll lose 9/10 times.

It's somewhat like having your Grandma riding shotgun and she controls the brake pedal!...👎

I drive with no driving aids at all except ABS 1, however I've found that having ASM enabled makes it really easy to recover should you go accidentally offroad anywhere on the course.

I think its basically cheating.:grumpy:

Brake not enough for the corner and step on full throttle too early.

I only race with it in 800hp and above, and even then only when the race is close, and I haven't yet figured out a good chassis tune. Otherwise, it is a big hinderance.

Another test is try to do the NASCAR trials in Special Events with ASM on and off. There is one test that is almost impossible with any aids on. Granted, I can't remember which one (high line Daytona I think), but man I spent a good hour on that trial until I realized that I had ASM on by mistake.

The TCS setting is the one that actually cuts the throttle though to control wheel spin.

You can't try it without ASM anymore, one of the updates stopped you doing that.:ouch: Unless you delete the game data that is.:sly:

To sum up, ASM definitely does slow you down.

Well, I tied a couple of S Licenses with / without ASM, and I agree, it makes a really noticeable difference. It felt like the car was braking on it's own going down a hill!

But.... I still didn't notice much difference when switched on for the Race Cars.

Because of that, I've just switched it off again 'cos it doesn't help!

I think in the end it will slow most drivers down especially in production cars, I myself found it useful in the NASCAR events, but it really depends on the track and perhaps the style of driver you are. With the red bull x1 it severly reduces oversteer in the corners whether braking or accelerating, which is useful if your just learning the X1 but overtime I found I perfered the oversteer, but in cars like the 908 or Audi R10 LMP racers maxed out 800 hp, racing through city courses I prefer less oversteer,
Put it this way if your the type of driver who likes to enter and exit corners with maximum speeds on the perfect line asm would probably useful especially with 700 + hp LMP, F1 and Nascar race cars. But if your the type that likes to dive-bomb into the corners and drift out then ASM would definitely slow you down

ASM slows me down during license tests (can't gold with ASM on). Helps me a lot when i do rally (I suck at that). Near useless and slows me when running production cars especially on Eiger/Eifel. Sometimes saves my ass if I use race car or Toyota 7 on nurburgring but overall time is nearly always slower than with ASM off (unless I spin out which is not uncommon). And on a shelby cobra with comfort soft, godsend. I generally turn it off unless experimenting with HP crazy car.

Yeah, I kept failing at one of the GT Rally events, so I tried some aids, and I found that ASM really slows you down.

Like some have posted, ASM can help a driver go faster on a track like the Ring, especially when driving a high-powered MR racing car.

Being able to actually stay on the track with ASM is faster than no ASM and riding the grass.

ASM is just overall bad....
