Does Gold really make a difference?

Well does it? If you get Golds on all of your driving exams does that make you a better driver. To tell truth i don't think it does. i know there are cars you can win if you get all golds but does doing them over and over again to perfection? I really only win bronze medals and i still kill the opposition. I'm just wondering what others think about getting gold on all the tests will make you a better driver or not really.

Its not hard to "kill the opposition" in GT3, unless you get a car like fully tuned Tureno a stick it in Pro mode instead of Amateur where its suppose to be. GT3 has probally got the worst AI cars out, with them smashing into the wall on almost every corner.

Golds do make a difference. It's only repetition, if you are not trying to learn why the line needs to go that way. It's fairly wasy to slaughter the competition with an over powered beast. Try goingon par with the AI.

Amateur Altezza Series. The AI drive an IS200 with Sports suspension and Sports tires. When you can out drive them, consider yourself a superior racer.

I'm still working on it.

2 words...vitz race
If you can get all golds through that series, i think its safe to say that you understand how to take the correct lines through the turns. You cant really overpower them in that series...its all about skilled driving (and a really good setup)

I think getting golds on all the licences will help to teach a few little tricks in getting the times down and handling tricky cars.

For example, the tests with the circular course must be practised until you have the sensitivity to keep the right hand wheels on the kerb most of the way round. And the Nissan over the humps and the Complex String teaches you to hang on and hope.

The more golds I got, the faster they seemed to come, and the S licences are supposed to be tricky (esp on the PAL S8), so I'd say I got better.

I got better. They help you get the 'feel' of the games physics. I will take my friends for example. They dont own GT3. When we race each other they get the fastest car they can get their hands on. Watch them race, they handle like crap. Compared to me who started off slower in slower cars and had practice and built up to faster cars. You cant just skip a bunch of steps, you need to take them one at a time...

I definitely got better after getting golds on the B-Licenses and A-License, but i haven't got any on the s-license. Very hard for me...

i cant say that the license tests made me any better...they were just a pain in the @$$. i guess thats because i had the original GT and GT2...i already understood the game physics and doin those license tests was just a headache. in GT2, getting all golds gave you cars that werent available otherwise. in GT3 the cars you get are available to purchase, or in series/ enduro races. there really wasnt any motivation for me to go through those tests to get all golds.
if you havent played before, i agree that all golds in the exams helps...other than that, the tests suck

My own personal take is that getting all golds in the license tests proves that you've mastered the skills needed to race well... but racing is about a lot more than just skill. It takes equal amounts of skill, experience and common sense to be an effective racer, plus just plain luck.

Much in the same way that virtual reality training could never accurately prepare a soldier for a real war, the license tests can't accurately prepare a driver for real racing conditions. Runnign on the track by yourself is a lot different than when you have other cars taking your line, shoving you around and basically creating the exact opposite of the controlled conditions of a test.

So basically, the license tests are good for teaching you what skills you need to know, but they won't teach you what to do with them once you have to deal with actual competition.

(Boy, am I long-winded or what? ;) )
