Does owning many cars generally make GT5 load slower?

I have two profiles, one with 1040+ cars, and one with about 10.

The larger profile takes 4-5 minutes to load the game, the smaller one take about a minute.

Is this a common thing, or just my save game which has become screwed?

4-5 minutes seems insanely slow. I've got 1020 cars and it's loaded in seconds. Your save game may be a bit screwed.

It's the save size that causes this, mine is huge on my main account because of the "museum bug" from before and loads slower than my gtp account because of it.
