Does shifting cause a loss in steering power?

I wouldnt call this placebo as much as paranoia but it seems like when you shift you lose steering power because you are then driving with one hand.. call me crazy but I'm just wondering if anyone else suspects this to be true.

I'm calling... wait. I don't experience this.

That is very odd, not to be rude, but it make be a personal issue.

I think the speed on your car reduces your car's steering power. If a car is too fast, it may already be much more difficult to control at full speed.

I'm not sure if the one-hand causes this, but I definitely feel a loss in steering power. Heading to sector 2 on Nordschleife I can manage about 70mph on SH tires in a 400PP Mitsubishi GTO SR. In 4th gear it understeers, but if I downshift, it corners perfectly fine in 3rd.

It's not because your driver has 1 hand on the wheel:lol:. If you take a corner in a higher gear, you'll generally understeer.

I think it depends on your gear ratio and your LSD setup.

like when he takes his hand off the wheel to shift i feel like there is a change before i shift. im wondering if it has a similar effect to the driver leaning in a kart.

I did not think that was what he was talking about.. I could be wrong.

I think... I have a solution! Don't drive in cockpit view! This way, you will not know if his hand on the wheel or on his.. you know, I don't where he puts his hand.

Hmmm.... Are you are you talking about the moment when you are "between" two gears? I mean when engine is still gaining more revs or when off throttle loosing them, the engine effects your steering probably in many ways, but there's a brief moment when your car is actually on neutral between gear changes, so could that be it?

When you shift gears, the revs drop. The power steering hydraulic pump is belt driven.

Now I'm no mechanic but I hope this makes sense.

But it's a stretch to assume this is represented in the game.
