Does the Ps3 pre install a game for it to run faster?

I noticed his with Granturismo 5 before the update that fixed loading, If i had played the game before hand it would load almost twice as fast as opposed to me playing little big planet Etc. Now I thought that was strange, does the ps3 have a Temporary games catch ? you know like our computers have to make the websites we use every day run faster * delete your catch and notice how slow everything loads compared to before* Any ways , i notice this ALOT with twisted metal , say i play TM before hand and play it again the next day or whatever and the loading time is short, 55 seconds max! now say i played Granturismo 5 before hand, the loading time is upwards of 1 Min. and 20 seconds? Why? To support my theory when i play games like infamous 2 * the whole games map is installed on to the hard drive and the only time it really uses the disk is to fetch missions and character models and say details on the streets.* TM does not have a huge jump in loading times? but when i play GT5 it does * mind you i have the game installed* , Google has been of no help to me... so I come to you guys?

Some do. It can help, but I haven't seen any affect otherwise after using it uninstalled and installed.

In regards to you, the Spec 2 software update decreased loading time substantially.

The installation option has a double purpose:

- Faster loading times;
- Reducing the strain on the BD laser and disk.

In GT's case, even if you don't choose to pre-install the game, every time you enter a track or view a car, it will install that specific data on the HDD.

I have a newer 320 gig,i installed it and found no difference. In fact after i installed it,about 70% of my car thumbnails wouldnt show up. But thats an easy fix

I have never noticed this - and I would doubt this is happening. Once the PS3 is powered down - any non ROM memory is lost. All you have is what is the onboard ROM and hard-disk when the machine is powered down. The ROM would only contain system information to launch the PS3 (i.e. think computer BIOS).

If it WAS caching - it would have to write it to the hard-drive (think Hibernate mode on a Windows system). I guess it could technically write the game state, but that would only get you the exact state you load back to (like gave saves for endurance racing in GT5, that is how that works). It writes the exact game data loaded to RAM on the hard-drive; it can only recover the last moment, it would not help any other load times.

So, agree with Chico; the only purpose of installing is the following. No fancy caching here (and I've never noticed what the OP states)

- Faster loading times;
- Reducing the strain on the BD laser and disk.

Yall read my OP' wrong, ignore Gt5, why does twisted metal load faster when i play it after playing the game a previous time before , as opposed to say me playing GT5 then twisted metal?
and Powel how about I do a video showing the drastic change? ive noticed this allot, if i play a game allot it loads faster as opposed to me popping it in every once and a while? this was huge before spec 2 on GT5 , not that its gone i notice it with twisted metal but at a greater extent!

This is a GT5 forum, not a Twisted Metal forum.

It happens to both games but i just said that so you guy's wouldn't get mixed up with the in game install =D it happens to Gt5 and Twisted metal , although its less noticeable in GT5.
