So, I'm 16, it was christmas eve last night, and I was not even slightly excited about it being christmas. Even now, on christmas day, I'm not my usual high spirited self at this time of year. Does this mean I am getting "old" so to speak...? :p
Anyway, Merry Christmas :)

I'm 16 and wasn't exited about christmas at all, but I still couldn't get to sleep 'till 2am last night, although that might have just been becuase I had lots of Red Bull beforehand.

It must mean we're getting old, because Christmas has somehow lost some of its magic for me as well the past couple years, I'm 19 btw.

I noticed that I had become bored of Christmas as of 2007 (I was 15). I guess it is once you discover that Santa is a myth that all the 'magic' about the special time, and the excitement it generates, deteriorates until a few years have passed and the typical response comes to be 'oh no! Now I have to go find presents, that appear thoughtful but yet don't break the budget, for everyone that I am at least slightly close to to. I hate Christmas.'

I am 14 and while I wasnt excited as much as being 11 I still had trouble getting to sleep.

I'm 16 and yeah..it has lost almost all meaning to me. It's basically just another day to me. I 'spose you get the present's and everything and get to spend time with all your family (in some cases) but without the 'santa' appeal it isn't really fun anymore. I know my youngest sister get's heaps of fun out of it and that still bring's a smile to my face on christmas morning. (she's 3..you should see her opening her presents...like a Jack Russell on Steroids.)

Cheers, Cougar23

16?!

Yeah you're ancient, you'll be getting your free bus pass before you know it.

Now you have to wait until you have kids for the excitement that Christmas is/was.

As Cougar stated, there is nothing better than watching kids open presents.
Except for the fact that you made Christmas exciting for them. :)

Merry Christmas.

I'm 18 and Christmas hasn't really lost its appeal. I'm not super excited, but it's still somewhat exciting to wonder what's underneath the wrapping paper. Hell I already know half of the gifts I'm getting and I still can't wait to open presents.

As you get older I think all the feeling does is shift. Although I'm only 18 with no job so this doesn't really apply too much to me, buying gifts for others and seeing the excited look on their face as they tear open the wrapping paper gives you a whole other great feeling. My sister is obsessed with Bumble Bee from Transformers, so last night I ran out and picked her up a Bumble Bee Transformer. It may not be a crazy expensive ipod, but it's the thought that counts, personally I'm excited just to see her reaction.

It depends what you get.

I'm 18, and I still think Christmas day is my favourite day of the whole year. Everybody gets the prezzies, not you. And everyone is full of Christmas cheer. My Dad called me a mad bastard (in a Yorkshire accent - should be bahstad) after realising I was talking to him for the last 5 mins because no one was in the room except us two - and we laughed for the next 10 mins, forgetting at the end why we started. Maybe too much Frangelico? Who cares.

I wasn't as excited this year because I'm not getting anything 'big', so to speak. Nothing apart from the usual stockings (God my mum does a good stocking) and tree prezzies, but nothing that I chose costing an arm and a leg. Usually I'd have a winge, because for some reason I always treat every christmas like my last (a year is a long way to wait lol), but Uni is coming up, which means fees, accomodation, new clothes, new everything, and a kickass laptop with at least 4gb of RAM and a 17" screen, so I can hold it in 'till march. That didn't stop me from having a good time though - my brother bought me GTPSP, I have more "quality reading matter" (or EVO and editorial books for short). I usually have money to spend on big stuff, but I just dumped it all on a schoolies trip to melbourne at the end Jan to go to the Australian Open, so while my friends are defying the economic downturn by posting up all the things they got, I'll sit tight and see what I get come march.

So yeah. THIS YEAR I am not excited, because I know the lappy comes soon, not now - plus I get the Ovlov because I need a car, because uni is 5 hours away. But it doesn't stop me from having a great time now. I'm very particular about my christmas. Dad wants a fake tree, but it'll be a cold day in hell when there isn't a tree smell in my living room come christmas time. I hate all the cheesy, chinsy decorations. We have the more sedate decs brought over from england when the parentals came over....30(?) years ago. We stock up on panattone and have it for breakfast....all these little traditions that I love. Sure, I wouldn't want to do them if I have mates over, but its family time, so I forget about appearance and all that tripe and focus on reliving some of my younger years (to an extent).

So yeah....I love christmas. While I am a christian, I celebrate it more strongly because of the fam getting together and having a really very jolly time together. Its for that reason that I hold onto it......plus the prezzies, when I have the dough. :p

I think that the recession has something to do with most people feeling less festive this year. I think that once things are back to normal those who normally feel the xmas spirit will do.

Except for the fact that you made Christmas exciting for them. must now decipher the hieroglyphics that is the instructions that came with said toys whilst the kids are running around with the exact part you need to finish the step you are working on so you can go on to the next toy that requires assembly.

And batteries.
Fixxered. :p

But yes, you're right - at a certain point in your life, it switches from being about you to your kids.

In short, you're certainly not old. Just growing up. *sniffs and sobs*

I'm 15 and I simply could not care less. Oh it's Christmas? Nice. Only yesterday I remembered it's Christmas, and it's just gone by like another day to me. Last year was OK, but I think from now on it's going to start losing its appeal.

For me, I love it because each year, seeing the joy in my son's face when he opens his christmas presents makes me love this time and sharing the joy of Santa (even if I'm the one getting the presents for him) and the whole spirit makes it all worth it. 👍

When you youngsters (15-19yr olds) have kids you'll understand that the magic reappears because of them. :D

Bailey's, Roast Beef, Cognac, Baked Potatoes, Wine, Glazed Carrots, Brandy, Yorkshire Pudding, Scotch, Grandma's Fruit Cake, Crown Royal, Grandma's Plum Pudding, and various assorted Winter Ales. How can I not love Xmas? I'm stuff to the gills with food and slightly drunk.

Im 13 and I don't care about Christmas anymore, what I really care about is BOXING DAY!!!

Yeah, sometimes I just can't wait to give some joker a right cross to the chin, or left jab to the kisser. BOXING DAY sounds like a lot of fun! 👍

I haven't cared for Christmas since I was 12, but having kids changed that about 10 years ago. However, since they mostly only ask for money, the fun and spirit of it has greatly faded.

You'll have those. But sometimes the christmas spirit really comes in full force. When I was 16, for instance, Christmas wasn't so special, but when I was 17 it was really something. This christmas was more somber because my dad's side of the family is still in mourning from my grandma's death. My dad stayed home and ate a frozen cuban sandwich that his mom made before she died. Yeah, that bad.

Christmas was fun when I got presents. Good presents, not a bar of candy or the like. At the moment, I don't care at all about it. I have grown to hate it, because having to stay awake until past midnight against my will is not my idea of "fun and happiness". Plus I don't believe in Christ, so you can imagine I'm not only doing something against my will, but against my religion (or lack thereof, actually). This was a particulary horrible Christmas, my mother was mad at me and my brother, because according to her "we don't do anything to help her". I'm so sorry, we didn't asked to be in this world, deal with the consequences.

I wouldn't say it's lost it's magic, it just has a new face for me. It used to be everyone would get me presents and I would wind up with a room full of crap. Now that I'm 20 I'm the one giving more than receiving, normally I only wind up with 4-5 things total. I still love it though because for some reason Christmas Eve at my aunts always has the special feeling that none of our other "get togethers" has.

Yea i got that feeling when I hit 16-17ish It was kinda depressing.... Now though I get a similar thrill at seeing my little cousins open presents I bought them, brings back memories :)

wait till you hit 21, your life FLIES by and you wont even remember Christmas, and or like mine its like oh its Xmas already? i thought it was Halloween last week? and at work we ALREADY have Valentines day out on the shelves.... @_@

I'm not religious at all, in fact, I'm quite the opposite in fact.
OK, we may not all get heaps of prezzies from "Santa" any more but Christmas still has a special religious meaning (Whether that's christian or paganism etc.) Whatsmore, when else do you get the excuse to consume that much food and alcohol!
I like the festive period, it gives me an excuse to relax with the family, and since the easyjet check-in desk was closed today, it was a day off for me.
I too went through the manic depressive stage we call the teens and I hated my slobbering far-extended family talking endless garbage.
But perhaps we should embrace some Christmas spirit in the years to come.
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year!

No. You really know you are getting old when some young punk kid calls you Sir. Never did I feel more offended

Personally I think people harp on too much about how Christmas is not the same and that it's lost its magic blah blah blah, but you know what? Christmas is what you make of it. I bet if it was removed as a public holiday, all the same people would complain how they now miss it and how awesome it was.

So don't give up on it, yes it was about the presents when you were a child, but that changes as you get older and people start exclusively giving you socks and ugly ties, but really, you should be happy and celebrate a cracking couple of days off work/school where it's okay to eat till you make yourself feel sick and then drink way too much as well while having a good laugh and a fun time with the family.

Merry Christmas all

At a certain point, Christmas does lose its excitement factor. A couple reasons: at a certain age, you start wanting more practical stuff (a couple years ago, I really wanted a toaster!). Also, as a kid, Christmas was the only opportunity to get those really expensive toys that a $5/week allowance wouldn't cover. As you get older, start working and making money, you can buy a lot of that stuff yourself...no need to wait until Christmas.

As I sit right now, after noon, the presents still sit unopened under the tree. We're waiting for my sister and her fiancee to get here before we start the party. As a 12 year-old, that would be excruciating. As a 25 year-old, I'm just fine with that :).

I'm 19 and Christmas isn't really exciting to me anymore, hasn't been for a while. Perhaps it's because I don't have a huge family to see, or tonnes of presents to receive, but that said I still look forward to Christmas at home. I wouldn't say I'm excited, but I look forward to spending some time with my parents, playing a few games and generally chilling out because thats what I like to do.

Cash isn't much to open but I'll be damned if it's not epic.

Although I kept getting 10s and single 20s vs consistent $40 bills of years past...

Then I got $50 and $80. That made for YAY.
